A Columbus man has been charged with impregnating a 10-year-old Ohio girl, whose travel to Indiana to seek an abortion led to international attention following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v Wade and activation of Ohio's abortion law.
Gershon Fuentes, 27, whose last known address was an apartment on Columbus' Northwest Side, was arrested Tuesday after police say he confessed to raping the child on at least two occasions. He's since been charged with rape, a felony of the first degree in Ohio.
Columbus police were made aware of the girl's pregnancy through a referral by Franklin County Children Services that was made by her mother on June 22, Det. Jeffrey Huhn testified Wednesday morning at Fuentes' arraignment. On June 30, the girl underwent a medical abortion in Indianapolis, Huhn said.
Oh God. I believed the story when it first came out. Why wouldn’t I? And when the right wingers said it was a lie, I was so hoping in this case to be owned. I was absolutely happy to think that this particular case wasn’t true. And to find out that the AG was just lying through his teeth in defense of an indefensible political position? So so upsetting. Magas - I wanted you to be right and suspended my disbelief to figure you might have known what you were talking about. But it’s all part of the grift. That poor poor child. Victimized once by the rapist, a second time by the State of Ohio, and a third time by the ugly right wing mob.

By this logic, a rape never happened unless there is arrest. Is that what you intend to say to the vast majority of rape victims who get no justice--that their story is bllsht unless ther rapist has been arrested?
There have been many, many disgusting things to slog through since 2016, but the lengths to which people have gone to defend the hideously indefensible hellscape of what happened to this poor child is a new low. I just can't process that we have so many depraved fcks walking among us who think they are GREAT GOD-FEARING PEOPLE engaged in an epic struggle to protect the unborn. Replusive.

The source of the story wasn't some random person. It was a practicing physician and Indiana U Medical School professor who went on the record and wouldn't lie about such a thing because she knew it was reportable. Kessler jumped on this because it gave him a chance to be on the right-wingers' side - something he rarely gets to do since they're the ones who usually lie. He and everyone else should apologize to the doctor for calling her a liar.

Well, some health care personnel decide to take the most conservative line to avoid scrutiny and stay above laws that aren't clearly written. Some health care personnel are themselves conservative and gladly rely on laws that aren't all that clearly written to justify their extremism.

Well, that settles that. I look forward to all of the mea culpas that will never actually come from those on the right who attacked the doctor for the telling the truth about this case so they could deny their own depravity.
I thought the story was fishy and I dont feel sorry for thinking that. In this era, its smart to be on guard for disinformation and wait for receipts. The Ohio DA, an authoritative source, disputed the veracity. People can and should take highly emotional, political stories with a grain of salt until the facts are verified.
