It’s so precious how you unqualified dimwits put “experts” in quotes. You’re delusional.

No, the Twitter epidemiologists and doctors who built their social media profiles off of Covid hysteria. They fear losing relevancy and have a vested interest in pushing doom and gloom.
Right, Covid is no big deal despite killing mil, ions around the world. Must be nice to have your privilege.
It was reported that Maryland has crossed the 14,000 deaths from COVID benchmark recently. It did make me pause because it seems like a very low number relative to what we went through in the last two years. There are more than 6,000,000 Marylanders, and the 14k deaths were heavily concentrated among the elderly with health issues. I'm sure a decent percentage would have likely died by now from something else had they never gotten infected from COVID.
When I see the cold hard numbers in front of me, it does make me realize how much of what we went through in the last two years was driven by little more than hysteria and fear far more than what was needed. We'd have been much better off with a very different approach to COVID targeted to the high risk demographics.
This. Also compare the numbers to other causes of death. Can you imagine how much better off if we had instead focused on reducing obesity across the country?
Are you crazy? Do you know how many more people would have died if we had just let it rip? Not to mention collateral damage from hospitals being constantly overwhelmed. The numbers you are looking at resulted from the policy you’re pooh poohing.
No, not the exact number. But I do know the vast majority would have been elderly and that we wouldn’t have a problem with social security or medicare anymore.
WTAF! Do you hear yourself. Please don’t pass this ageist shit on to your kids.
My kids know dying is a natural part of life. It is troubling that you don’t seem to acknowledge that.
What is troubling is your non-sensical response. The pp is smug that older adults are dying because it solves a political problem. Societies are best with a mix of age ranges. It has nothing to do with acknowledging/denying death. It is ageist and will bite you in the ass if you’re lucky enough.
Let’s be real- societies are best with a mix of age ranges up to a point. After about 65-70 years old, the age group is a net drag on society. That’s not to say there aren’t some contributing members of society at that age, but their costs greatly outweigh their benefits.
I hope you pop off at 65 years and one day, jerk.
Struck a nerve I see. But I notified you didn’t claim I’m actually wrong. Old people die from a variety of causes- covid is just one more thing. And there’s no great societal harm from a small uptick in geriatric death rates.
I am 63 and healthy and my husband 67 also healthy. No obesity or any other medical conditions. Bring it on. We stopped wearing our masks as soon as allowed and intend to live life normally despite any surge. We traveled to NYC and attended large unmasked gatherings in December. Neither of us has had it...we are probably immune!! I have a teenager (I know I am old for that) who never stopped going to school and is unmasked in school. We are all vaccinated. The only thing we should be looking at at this point is hospitalizations, and that will not likely be an issue this time. And we now know that masks are useless...especially with this new variant. Bring in on.

Not worried, but if you want to perpetuate this because you are too lazy to go back to the office, then go right ahead.

You were lucky. Maybe. You do not know the long term effects that can surface in the future. Studies show you have been affected but may not have symptoms yet.
Long Covid affects the vaccinated too so it’s not just a cold and it’s irresponsible to compare Covid to a cold. It travels to the brain unlike other viruses. It is not a joke.
And not everyone can be vaccinated yet so it would be appreciated if we could still treat this as a serious virus.
Risk is low right now (we think) but if it surges again, I hope people will be responsible. Western Europe is having problems again so we may be next.
Long COVID isn't a thing anymore than long cold or long flu long stubbed toe. Why can't you just move on already.
The AMA disagrees with you. https://www.ama-assn.org/delivering-care/public-health/what-doctors-wish-patients-knew-about-long-covid
Reasonable doctor minds differ on the topic:

I tend to lean with the view I cite here.

Well on a related note scientists have detected changes in the flora that inhabit our mouths due to the prolonged mask wearing. What will the long term consequences he? No one knows.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Why are some of you people so obsessed with masks? Its creepy. They have become a religious talisman of protection.
As for me, I'm never doing any of this again, and I will actively fight it next time. I put up with this shit last time even though I disagreed with it, but this is stupid. Seriously I never thought I would find myself agreeing with republicans but here we are.
I don't think restrictions will happen though, bc politics....we have elections in november lol.
Why are some people so obsessed with being anti mask? Seriously- what’s the big deal about covering your goddamn mouth and nose during a pandemic in a public indoor space like a grocery store? Go about living your personal life as you please, see people indoors, risk getting covid or whatever you want, but what is the big deal about having some decency in a public, non social place like a supermarket where everyone - those who don’t care about covid, those who are being careful, the immunocompromised, the pregnant woman, the elderly, or the parent with a vaccine ineligible kid in tow- must shop?
Americans are selfish and reject science when it affects their lifestyle.
They claim to have Christian values but don’t care about their fellow man at all.
I’ve found the human response to Covid to be very sad. I feel a little depression all the time that people care so little about others.
A. Grocery stores have never been hotbeds of transmission because people aren't interacting with each other for long periods of time and the vast majority of people do not have COVID (exception was during the Omicron surge). Most people I've seen are still wearing masks in these settings, as am I, because what's the big deal, but I wear a cloth mask since I don't want to waste my respirators that are actually effective. Honestly, my cloth mask is just for show.
B. Wearing a mask for hours each day is a different matter. Most people insisting that children or others continue to mask all day long, do not have to do so themselves. While COVID cases are low, it makes a lot of sense to give people a break, since masking does NOT eliminate transmission and very few people even have COVID so their mask is not protecting anybody.
