If Jews can't come to an agreement on who is Jewish (as evidence by this long discussion thread), it should come to no surprise that non-Jews don't know "who Jews are."
I, as a fully Ashkenazic Jewish person, think that it's fine for people to get mad at Whoopi Goldberg, if they want, but absurd for her to be punished or widely canceled because her understanding of this is a shade different from the way some Jewish people understand this.
The kinds of fake controversies are part of a scheme by bad guys who want to herd nice people into self-censoring circles, so they can justify limiting our freedom of speech in other contexts. It has nothing whatsoever to do with fighting racism or antisemitism.
