People are asking all these questions like he’s a sane rational actor. He is not. It is very sad. Everyone is talking about it because it happened to be UHC that his paranoia focused on. It could have been someone at his surf coop, or the head of his former employer, or a piliitican. #1 thing when dealing with a mentally ill person is not to assume normal, rationale motives. Or sometimes any motive.
Wait for the “voices told me to do it” defense.
Since when did murder = mental illness? Humans have been killing each other without being mentally-ill since Cain killed Able. If you're Christian, then you believe that in God's eye, there is no valid reason for murder. But that doesn't mean that people can't have internally rational motives for murder. Luigi's reasons are internally consistent: mental illness is not needed to explain them.
Luigi had no authority to be judge and executioner.
He thinks so.
We need to find out who/what was funding his life of luxury before this shooting.

I passed out in an airport due to chronic back pain. I didn't want my life to be not worth living so I kept working and work requried travel.
they are saying the back surgery caused ED. And he's upset about that.
Who’s they?
Some guy he lived with in Hawaii claims in an interview that Luigi said his back pain was so bad that he was scared to "be intimate" with someone. He did not claim to have ED. That is assuming that Luigi actually said this, and also assuming that Luigi was being truthful. He may have been just making it up, exaggerating, embellishing, etc. He's insane. In that same interview the guy claimed they went to yoga and went surfing together so I am having a hard time believing Luigi can do those activities but not get laid?

Murder doesn’t always = mental illness but in this case the facts are highly suggestive of mental illness. Everyone that knew him (friends, colleagues, teachers, classmates) have said his actions and beliefs are completely opposite of the young man they knew. He did not have the personality or history of a person that would withdraw from family, friends, and society. Those are clear signs of mental illness, particularly schizophrenia and depression. When you add in the medical issues and pain, it’s another huge contributor of a mental break. I have seen this pattern in two different family members that suffered from schizophrenia. One withdrew from family and friends (no one knew their whereabouts for months) and then committed a violent crime (the voices instructed the person to do it). The other suffered pain and medical problems for years that spiraled into untreated depression and then psychosis. Neither recognized their illness and would say there was nothing wrong with them. That is a symptom of the illness.

+1 sadly, this is so true. And the ones hurt the most after the victims family, are his family.
This is why I think his family did notify authorities that they suspected it was him, but a PP said the authorities specifically said they didn't.

But what about the the unaffordable cost of health care and claims that get denied?
People except too much. Sorry, but they do. As a population we are over treated and over medicated. It’s not sustainable. I’m 40 and I honestly can’t think of a single female friend that isn’t on an SSRI, anti anxiety, or stimulant med. 75% of the population had eaten their way into diabetes, being overweight or obesity. Now we need an expensive drug to fix it because no one wants to eat less. Women want to wait to have kids into their mid 30s and 40s use IVF. People used to have kids in their 20s or just accept kids weren’t in the cards if it didn’t happen naturally. Not anymore. I don’t think our problem is healthcare, it’s our expectations. People want to live until 100 and have every single aliment and discomfort alleviated. Getting sick and dying is part of life. Curing and fixing everything on everyone, every time, at all ages (or using up tons of resources trying) is not sustainable

The media and Take No Responsibility faction will write a narrative of mental illness. It's an old tired pointless narrative when the killer is a white male U.S. citizen with no other apparent motive.

His descriptions of “brain fog” starting in college could be consistent with symptoms in the prodrome of schizophrenia as could the social and occupational withdrawal. To me he seems ill for sure but certainly not a slam dunk for schizophrenia based on what we’ve seen of his writing and behavior.
Interestingly, the unabomber was diagnosed w schizophrenia as that was thought to be the best fit but it definitely wasn’t a typical presentation. Just interesting to have two extremely bright people with similar (but very atypical) presentations if it does turn out to be schizophrenia.

Getting a teen or adult into therapy and then having them do the takeaways rarely happens.
We had multiple PhD psychologists ask how we got a 39 yo “brilliant” person in to do a 4 hour neuropsychology test. He was Dx ASD I and Bipolar II, plus the usual anxiety and depression associated with it.
He never accepted his list of patterns of symptoms nor Dx. He said he took the test “to show us he was fine.” He also now demands to “take the test again since the first one was incorrect.”
It’s looneyville. Save yourself.
Luigi clearly had a mental episode. He is no hero.
He is dangerously, mentally ill.

Murder without rational motive is typically due to mental illness. This CEO didn’t even know him or affect him personally

Also, what’s missing from the discourse about this is that some insurance denials (many!) are because of predatory or fraudulent practices on the part of insurance companies but plenty would happen in any system simply because of finite resources-see nhs stories!
denials and reviews are always going to be part of healthcare even if we suddenly had mother Teresa at the helm of UHC.
What is also missing is the insurance fraud committed by thousands every day.
Sadly, back pain is often not approved by surgery. Some people suffer without relief, even after trying multiple surgical nonsurgical routes.
I don't disagree with your indictment of insurance companies, but the belief that back pain can be best solved with surgery is actually mostly a boon to unscrupulous doctors. 20-40% of back surgeries fail, and if you are in that group, you will wind up with MORE issues than you had before surgery. Talk to a well respected ortho about this -- the good ones are very reluctant to cut because they know the outcomes. A lot of people wind up in back pain and they struggle with the non-invasive options because they require the patient to do a lot -- go to PT and exercise religiously, often they need to lose weight as well. There are some pharmaceuticals that can help (anti-inflammatories are particularly useful especially when used in tandem with PT). Chiropractic adjustments when done by a responsible practitioner (a lot of PTs can do it) can help a lot. When people don't like the effort level involved in all that, they want surgery and a magic fix. There isn't one.
Insurance companies can be terrible (UHC certainly is) but an insurer declining to pay for a pay surgery that is not medically necessary is doing you a favor. A lot of patients don't want to hear it though.
