Subject: Re:Initial boundary options for Woodward study area are up
I don't think the current or past offerings at Einstein are particularly relevant to what it may have in a few years when the new boundaries and regions kick in. There will be a different population of students, possibly from different neighborhoods, and there will be no more school choice when the DCC ends, as only a small percentage will be able to attend special programs elsewhere. We also don't know whether Einstein will continue its local IB program. Too many unknown factors to make any predictions now.

Sure, but what kind of mix? IB HL Analysis for math? AP Physics C? Recently (in the last 2 or 3 years)?
Consider its offerings versus BCC's, another local IB school. Your family may have been served well, but MCPS leaves those from catchments such as Einstein's who need advanced courses out in the cold.
There is no science aps and math stops at bc. Different kids have different needs.

Crown will be an awesome place for STEM oriented kids. Woodward will be just opposite.
Looking at it, I agree with the above observation. Looks like Wooward will be the second Einstein in the area. I think Einstein will be losing IB and no IB in Woodward. Both are high level of FARMS comapred to lets say WJ. Both will be having art programs without any STEM focus. Likely to end up as two simialr schools. Right now, Einstein used to egt some movitaed kids due to IB, now it will be gone as well.
Crown got a far better end of bargain here and it will help the school to start strong.
If Einstein is losing the performing arts there is no reason to go given they have watered down academics. They just ruined Einstein. Losing the IB is fine as only a few graduate with degrees.
Again, this doesn't mean Einstein is losing IB. It means Einstein won't have a regional IB program. It can either keep IB or have comparable AP classes for the local students.
Given the direction of Einstein's IB program, facilitated in its decline by the school's administration, it either will continue its devolution as the more academically inclined go to the new regional IB at BCC or it will go away entirely as resources focus on now-to-be-regional programs VAC (currently county-wide), Education (currently ??? -- there is special education at Einstein, but that is for students with special ed need, so one might question the claim of an extant Education program, presumably teaching-oriented, on the asset map; alternately, they may be defining "Education," from a magnet perspective, as Special Education in the first place, which introduces a whole other set of considerations) & Design (to be developed).
Divorcing VAC and Performing Arts (currently DCC-available VAPA), with the latter to be a regional magnet at Northwood, could be a mistake, diminishing the possibility of a cohesive and reputation-enhancing set of magnet foci for the school.
The same kids will choose Northwood leaving Einstein to decline. The vp leaving was the only strong admin
There will be no more choosing. Everyone goes to their zoned school unless they get into a special program.

VAC and VAPA have always been separate, so there's no divorcing needed. The Education program is probably the Teacher Academy of Maryland, which Einstein already has.
I thought they cut out or back the teacher program from lack of interest. I know we will bail if this happens.

Einstein is pretty low. I thought enough motivated kids are present in Einstein. I am surprised to see it with Watkins Mill.
There are lots of great motivated kids but few apps and other offerings. Remove the preforming arts, which is the reason why kids choose it, and they may lose a lot more kids.
