Now, let’s do Fairfax County. Last week we were a moderate transmission and… 0.0% of the hospital beds in this region were we occupied by COVID patients.
That’s right. No COVID hospitalizations last week. The vaccines are working. People who are getting infected aren’t needing to be hospitalized and aren’t dying here because we have high vaccine uptake.

So calm down. The vaccines are working and our public health situation is good. I have been very cautious with COVID. But I can also do a risk-benefit analysis. And the risk in Fairfax co. Is very low.
The risk in Fairfax could change. Quickly. We only have about 55% of our population that is fully vaccinated.
The vaccine dashboard says 58% fully and 64% partially. It’s 70% and 76% of adults.
But more broadly, I have an anxiety disorder. So, I know this: if you are focusing on what could be instead of what is, ou will make ourself and everyone around you crazy. And here is what is— delta is causing mild breakthrough cases in vaxxed adults. Not hospitalizations. Not death.
Get vaccinated. Stop putting off getting your 12-18 vaccinated. Wear a mask. Help your kid find good fitting KN95, KF94 or cloth masks with filters. My teen likes these. They are soft and have filters. They work for smaller, young adult faces. They also have kid sizes.

Help your kid re-adjust to wearing a mask. Then go. Keep an eye on the data, and if it changes readjust.
Right now, there is no crisis. And there is no evidence there will be a crisis in NOVA. You are basing your decisions on places with a vaxx rate that is half of ours, and where mask mandates are illegal. That isn’t us. If the data changes, that’s one thing. But the OMG Florida! hysteria is counterproductive.
