You really need to go listen to the Murdaugh Murders podcast. It goes into quite a bit of history and detail. Likely, Paul was killed because he wasn't supposed to be at the house (his friend's had a dog at their kennel and the son decided to last minute check in on the dog as a favor). There is ample evidence that Alex lured his wife to Mozelle (the house where she was murdered), and killed her while trying to set up an alibi that he was with his ailing parents. Paul likely arrived to check on the dog and either caught his dad in the act or soon after. Paul also was the driver of the boat that killed Mallory Beach.

It's really worth it to go back and listen to the entire podcast, you will see the web he's been weaving for years, how they were likely broke (Maggie bounced a check to a charity a month or so before she died...). After listening to the f'ed up things he did to so many people it's not at all surprising that he's going to be charged (the podcast talks about how he had "high velocity" blood spatter that could only come from close range to the actual shooting (think blood mist vs blood splatter).

Is it really verbose? I find podcasts like to really.drag.it.out. and make what should have been 4 episodes into 8.

I will try to go back and listen. So the implication is that the wife was really the target, and the son was just collateral damage?

Wow.

Maybe because the other son didn't kill someone? Did anyone actually think Murdaugh DIDN'T do it? Of course he did it. And the insurance fraud and hiring that guy to off him so that the other son would get $10M in life insurance. What a moron.

Sounds like he had a clear favorite in that family. I get offing the killer son, I wonder what his marriage was like though?

How and why did he drop one gun to pick up another though?

Murdaugh reported finding his wife and son shot to death shortly after 10 p.m. June 7, 2021, near a kennel outside the family’s property at 4147 Moselle Road in Islandton. Investigators released scant information on the killings, but word soon surfaced that the pair had been slain with different guns – a rifle and a shotgun. No motive was offered.

To make it look like multiple killers. I'm guessing son and wife were killed at some interval apart.
