The district says they have been consulting with the Oregon Health Authority, Oregon Department of Education and the Washington County Health Department to determine a response.

Based on their guidance, officials say they will not be closing the school. They say updated guidance from the OHA and WCHD is that closing schools may not be an effective method for stopping the spread of the virus.

The ill student will continue their isolation until they are well. Anyone determined to be at an enhanced risk of exposure will be contacted and asked to self-isolate, officials said.

South Meadows Middle School will receive an enhanced cleaning Sunday evening.

I agree and I suspect some No Va schools will close within the next week and possibly Md too.

I think that is an acceptable compromise.

I fit that profile but tell that to my agency that actually ELIMINATED a lot of telework for many positions out of the fields nationwide a few months ago saying they are trying to increase productivity. New leadership has been trying to eliminate our partial week telework policy too (large operation with more than 1,000 positions in headquarters here in DMV). The new commissioner is a Trump appointee, actually a college classmate of his with no background to lead our agency. I don't see my agency's leadership allowing 5 day telework even for a temporary period. I am actually going to start using my leave.

And as an AA whose grandmother was denied a high school education because her town didn’t provide 9-12th grade for black people, I find it offensive to decide who does or does not need to go to school. The good people of my grandmother’s town wanted black boys in the fields by age 14 and black girls in the white folk’s kitchens.

I am 40, immunocompromised and diabetic. My child attends a frost feeder elementary but we cannot self-quarantine because he just missed 3 days of school due to a bad cold and I have used up my sick days. I also know of many at risk children at our school. Closing schools would not just benefit “one person”.
