I don't think they are pushing for Key to go to ASFS, I think they are the Key neighbors who don't want immersion and want a neighborhood school.

I wouldn't assume that. There are a few different contingents, each with different priorities/interests.

As part of the Elementary School Planning Initiative, staff has gathered community input on elementary school walk zones and on draft considerations for the review of neighborhood and option school locations Today, April 12, staff will post a School Location Review analysis of suitability for neighborhood and option elementary school sites at www.apsva.us/elementary-school-boundary-change/. This process may result in some neighborhood elementary schools becoming option school sites, and vice versa. In Phase 2, staff will develop attendance zones for new elementary schools and adjust boundaries for all neighborhood elementary schools.
I imagine they'll post it during/after the work session. If nothing else, I think the community has shown its hateful side far too often for the board and staff to subject themselves to it any more than necessary. I don't blame them.

I think they know the response to whatever they present is going to be ugly, so they're adding in an extra round of community engagement so no one can claim they didn't have an opportunity to offer input after finding out their school was on the chopping block.

Ah, I see. I misunderstood pp's implication. Doesn't it go without saying that people close to a school would probably prefer it to be neighborhood if they're not already in the option program there?

Me? I live in Rosslyn and would rather have my neighborhood school be at Key rather than ASFS or (ugh) Taylor. I don't drive and it blows to try to get to either of those schools without a car.

It's actually 42% (280 kids) that are neighborhood attendees at Key. The families of the 500+ Key zone kids at ASFS are the ones who would like to see them switch.

Maybe they don't care about being moved as long as it's not to some far-away location? Maybe they assume they're just going to be swapped with another nearby school and aren't concerned that it would negatively affect the program. I'm guessing, I have no inside knowledge.
