The fact is that Hogan still has an over 70% approval rating including MoCo and over 80% approval rating excluding MoCo. And Jealous' far left leanings are not doing him any favors. There are just as many people (or more) crossing into the Anyone-but-Jealous camp as are in the anyone-but-Hogan camp. I'm pretty sure that by selecting Jealous, the Democrats have handed this election to Hogan on a platter. Baker could have given Hogan a run for his money, but I doubt that Jealous will come close.

Also, do any of you Jealous voters have an HHI below about $200K or even $150K? I would be surprised if anyone with under those limits are really looking forward to higher taxes to pay for all of those programs and policies that Jealous wants to institute. It's going to take money to implement all that he wants and he is NOT getting any more from business taxes, in fact, he'll likely get less, so it's going to have to come from somewhere and increases to personal and property taxes are going to be the source.

MoCo, PG county and Baltimore will come out and vote in this gubernatorial election and Jealous will win.

Things will shift, as they always do, after a primary, when the parties cement themselves behind the nominee. There is a HUGE national backlash against Repiblicans right now, and Hogan will feel that to some extent. Jealous cannot impose new taxes or new laws without the General Assembly. He’s not as powerful as you fear. Is this enough to pull out a Jealous win? I don’t know. But it’s not out of the question.

Don’t be dense. The combo referenced in the post is obviously “elrich as MoCo exec and jealous as governor”. Do you always need everything spelled out for you. And yes, bury your head in the sand about the direction of the county, just like Elrich and most of the other sitting council members. Easier to blame a study (as if that were the one and only outlying source for the gloomy economic projections for MoCo), than to admit there may be problems. And in Arlington and Fairfax Co, is it also the case that newer residents moving in are poorer than residents moving out? If it merely boils down to younger v. older residents, then surely those jurisdictions should show the same trend.

I don't know. Do you? And if you do know, how do you know?

I’m worried there may be other wealthy families in the county who would leave for VA or DC if Ben Jealous is elected. I’m going to cautiously put in my vote for Hogan too. We cannot support higher taxes in this state without a booming private sector business. I do wish Amazon came to MoCo or the state of MD in general.

If Jealous is governor and Elrich is MoCo exec, there is less than zero chance amazon comes here. It will be extremely tough to draw any other new business here and long odds in keeping the few businesses that are still remaining. The higher earning and upper middle class residents will be forced to keep shouldering more and more of the burden with fewer benefits in the name of social justice and they too will start moving across the river. This is not speculation. This is what’s been happening the past decade or so based on all recent studies of the county’s economics (stagnant at best, sharply declining at worst) and demographics (newer residents are less wealthy than residents leaving the county). The only question was: are we going to continuing the policies that led to this, and perhaps even double-down on them with an Elrich/Jealous combo?

1. That was a pretty shoddy study
2. Newer residents are also younger than residents leaving the county

Also, there isn't going to be an Elrich/Jealous combination. Ben Jealous already has a running mate for lieutenant governor, and it's not Marc Elrich. Meanwhile, Marc Elrich is running for executive of Montgomery County, not king of Montgomery County. Who decides about taxes in Montgomery County? Not the county executive. The county council does.

Exactly. And it takes 9 votes to raise taxes.

I'm not seeing the downside here? We could do with a little oppression, frankly. A taste of our own medicine.

You must be rich. That’s nice but many of us are not . Many of us are already struggling.

Try having some SN kids. See how your ‘richness ‘ goes right out the window.

We are not happy to hear that money would leave MoCo and HoCo from the Kiernan commission report. We also think Ben Jealous is a crazy nut job who’d raise taxes sky high. We own 8 acres in MoCo and we’d pick up and leave for VA if Jealous became Governor because we don’t want to pay for universal pre-school, climate change and free college. This is not DC, this county does not have 2 Billion in reserves. Ben Jealous’s race/ethnic heritage does not matter as we are an interracial family. This county is running in the negative for growth. We are going to vote for Maladeno. I saw someone mentioned earlier about changing party lines, is that really necessary to vote for Maladeno? We’d like to keep our Republican tag. Does anyone have a link or info about voting across party lines in MD? Thank you.

Well, if that's how you feel, then that's how you feel. I wouldn't do that, but it's your decision.

She won’t do that, because it will take forever to sell eight acres. Nobody wants that.
