But here's the thing... they did not at any point think it was a bomb. NONE of the actions they took (other than reporting the child to law enforcement) were actions a school takes when there is a possible bomb.
They didn't do this because they thought it was a bomb. It rather appears they did this because they are disgusting racists.
There's a third possibility you know. Could be that they knew it wasn't a bomb after talking to the kid, but thought it might be a hoax given his engineering teacher told him not to show it to other teachers? Instead of leaving it with the teacher, he carried it around in his backpack.
One way of not showing the clock is to keep it in a backpack. Unfortunately for Ahmed, it apparently made some sort of sound during a class which led him to show the teacher the source of the sound.
I agree. He should have disconnected the beeper before storing it. He didn't mention the sound in the TV interview but I think he did in an interview for the newspaper. Why the administrators thought it might be a hoax, I don't know. FWIW, if the kid wasn't acting like it was a hoax (i.e. planting it someone deliberately), it probably wasn't. Again, I place the blame on the administrators.
I also think the 'poor little Muslim kid' thing is a crock of shit
Y'all have a lot of expectations of a fourteen year old boy carrying a clock. I daresay your kids probably couldn't set one, much less build one. And if they did manage that, they would probably forget it at school.
My oldest two are STEM kids. My firstborn could code well at that age. He would probably forget it at school - the kid forgot EVERYHING...takes after his Dad![]()
My daughter (middle) won the STEM award for her school. She's diligent to a fault.
My point is I think that nice little kid is being used by CAIR. Not the first time kids are used - at least no one is wiring him up! . That said, I think he should take advantage of the MIT visit and White House tour!
onky to the extent that the toy gun kids are being used by the GOP.
Toy guns? A kid was suspended for throwing an imaginary grenade in an imaginary box full of imaginary bad guys. You don't HAVE to exploit that - it speaks for itself...along with pop-tart guns and tiny little LEGO guns.
Somehow I don't recall pop tart kid being arrested. And unless you support the arrest of pop tart kid, it has no bearing on whether this boy and his clock should receive that kind of treatment. The whole "where's the outrage" thing is a useless point. There was plenty of outrage but it's more a matter for the PTA than a political board.

Not such a popular thread-I suspect no one cares as he has not "invented" a clock or anything even remotely resembling one. Our priorities are very very screwed up!

Interesting article. An engineer takes apart the clock. Contends that the child did not invent or even build a clock. Includes pictures and explanation.
And, for the people who say clocks are not against TSA requirements. What about a box with lots of wires?
Love this article-we as a nation are so divisive, looking to blame and looking to make a "victim" where there is none. If only people would analyze situations and seek the facts, the truth, we would not be in the mess we are in. Keep swallowing the "GMO filled" garbage the media is spoon feeding us and we will no longer exist as we once were-we will be a country of divisive, hateful, gullible, mindless idiots-oh wait.....we might just have reached that point! I am not a conservative (as some may perceive due to my take on things), nor a liberal (as I once thought I was), I just like to explore the entire story, all the facts before I make an ASS-umption! The truth shall set us free! (not overzealous liberal idiots who think everything has to be PC-or conservative" bible thumping idiots with their heads up their asses.
I think this kid and his family knew exactly what he was doing and they are now laughing all the way at us idiots-in America!
This article contradicts the Facebook post you posted. So, which one is correct? They both can't be right. I think it is pretty funny that you post obviously false information and then accuse others of being deceptive. Maybe you are suspicious of Ahmed and his family because you know that you would behave dishonestly in their place?
Jeff-Marijuana is now legal in DC-pleas go get some cause you need to chill- this makes no sense......
Have you ever heard of transference? I am suggesting that the poster who suspects the worst of Ahmed's family may feel that way because, in that family's place, the poster would behave deceptively. Also, you may be conducting your own transference by suggesting that I need to get high. Perhaps that reflects your own situation more than mine?

Anonymous wrote:The "Radio Shack Micronta Alarm Clock" story sounds plausible but has one issue - that particular clock that they showed runs off of wall AC power. Ahmed's was self-contained and battery powered.
But either way, building a digital alarm clock with LED display is not all that hard these days, given all of the hobbyist electronic components out there. Not necessarily "genius" or "invention" but still very cool that this kid was tinkering around with it.
