ASA parent here. I love the team, but I have to say I'm disappointed with ASA's communications. No acknowledgement of the deep emotional impact this has had on the team's families and swimmers, no response to concerns about the photo-taking by Thomas, no empathy for the victims. I really wish they had said something to the WaPo reporter to show they actually care about what's happening.

Plus, the Australian Embassy is offering their assistance to this evil man. The current corrupted government of Australia has no problem protecting pedophiles who assault children.

The “wife is warm and really lovely to talk to.” She tricked you. She knew about the 2023 incidents because the police had a warrant for Thomas Mahony. She destroyed all the incriminating evidence and took the last chopper out of Saigon.

Shouldn’t our American Embassy (wherever she is) be having her questioned under oath? It’s seems she may be an accomplice.

The victims (little children!!!) have a public YouTube account. What the hell is wrong with the parents? All of this is insane. Maybe there is a lot more going on here than reported in the charging documents. Those poor babies. I hope there is a GAL appointed.


It’s still up as of today. Yes, the mom knows and hasn’t taken the channel, showing her two little children, down. Disgusting.

Not insensitive at all. The media uses similar tactics to grab eyeballs and clicks. I do like how you are offended for the OP who could easily come back to the thread (or ask Jeff to change the title).

Also, there have been numerous threads here with posters taking ridiculous shots at ASA. As an ASA parent, I will defend the club where it is clear that it did nothing wrong. Why aren't you?


You said it “did nothing wrong.” Is emailing me about Thomas Mahony’s arrest several weeks after ASA probably found out about the arrest the same thing as doing nothing wrong? It makes it look like ASA was hiding it from other members when it should’ve notified everyone in case there’s more victims. We’ve enjoyed ASA and won’t leave. But, that doesn’t mean ASA should not be able to take constructive criticism when it could’ve done better. We can all improve.

9:54 here. I strongly agree that a solid, appropriate therapist would benefit many parents, even for those who are hesitant to file a report about concerning behavior from any potential perpetrator.
These “charming” and “helpful” predators are counting on us to turn a blind eye on their grooming techniques. Heck, I’d straight out tell them to back off if I saw anything. Let them know you see what they’re doing, even if it’s not your kid.
Your child’s safety is well worth a little of my discomfort. If a predator knows I’m THAT parent… GOOD. Let there be more of us. Good men must also speak out, not just shuttle your own children away from potential harm. We MUST protect our children from sex assault. Nothing is more important.

ASA parent here. Thomas took a lot of pictures of my kids and did who knows what with those pictures. I’m traumatized by what’s transpired with this entire ordeal and appreciate the OP for bringing this to my attention.

To add to my prior post, the NY Post article reported that the alleged offenses took place at the parent's home during play dates. So again I ask, what does that have to do with ASA?

Am thinking OP’s immediate concern was to alert other ASA parents, but agree overall that now a different thread title would be more helpful. Heck, considering how other this is happening, a separate forum would be something.


I believe that the catalyst for the OP was the email ASA sent out to AG1 and AG2 parents on July 29 informing them of the arrest and the Mahonys' status with the team. It's worth reading through all 25 pages of the thread if you have time.

It has to do with ASA because as one PP mentioned, Thomas took many many photos of our swimmers. Which means he has thousands of images of our swimmers on his laptop/devices. Who knows what he's done with those? ASA families and kids who knew the Mahonys are deeply shocked and traumatized by the events of the last couple of weeks. I, for one, may seek therapy for myself and my child to help them process what happened.

I am not the OP. Do you think it’s not important to alert other ASA parents so they can ask their kids if this monster harmed them? Two of the victims were swim team teammates with his sons. I didn’t read all 25 pages of this thread. The headline doesn’t say ASA did anything wrong. Other ASA parents are saying Thomas Mahony put himself on the carpool list for ASA.
