Seems like an annual tradition that Congress approves more and more flights. Enough is enough. Time to cut back.
They need to build a new airport further away from the city, then shut DCA down. Reagan (like much in the area) was built in the 40s when there were far fewer people. DC has grown much too large to rely on such a small airport.
Dulles and BWI already exist as bigger airports further away from the city. DCA will never close. The House and Senate members depend on its convenience.
Wasn’t the whole reason Trump was elected because people are tired of elites getting special privileges? Maybe it’s time for them to give up their airport and VIP helicopter rides.

“ runway
[WASHINGTON D.C., JANUARY 25, 2024] – Despite what the facts make clear, reckless efforts to add more flights at the overburdened Reagan National Airport (DCA) will cause more delays and threaten passenger safety. Physically constrained by the Potomac River on one side and bustling neighborhoods and federal buildings on another, DCA tops the list of America’s 10 busiest commercial runways with no room to grow and accommodate any additional flights.
Today, DCA already serves nine million more passengers than it was designed to handle. More flights would put additional pressure on DCA’s main runway, as its second shorter runway is not designed to accommodate larger airplanes. Capacity constraints are further exasperated by ongoing runway rehabilitation projects at DCA which are expected to resume in the spring of 2024 and may impact certain flights to DCA.”

Yep. This needs to stop asap. There have already been near collisions prior to this actual one. They need to start pulling back the # of flights. I’ll drive the extra 40 min to Dulles if my usual flight is eliminated for safety reasons
I already posted. Flight options at Dulles are crappy. All international or west coast. Do they have the spare gates to absorb DCA traffic? I can’t imagine they do…

An airline lobbyist told me DCA is one of the most dangerous airports in the country.

Maybe ice cold water will save some. I'm hoping against hope.
How will they breathe underwater, you nincompoop?
No, sometimes extreme cold can slow down the metabolism. But probably not in this case.

How horrific. I can’t even imagine. I truly have no words. Shame on that reporter for making him show his text messages at a time like this. This man is clearly in shock.
He’s so young. Heartbreaking. Waiting for her. Reporter is a vulture. Shame.

They do it all day every day. Spend some time on the Mt Vernon trail and you’ll see tons of helicopters - Army, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard all run helicopters up and down the river for training. Sometimes you’ll see a police helicopter (DC or Park Police) but they usually have a good reason to be there.
Yep. I live in Arlington and drive to and from DC every day- right along and across the Potomac We have seen more helicopters than usual lately. Yesterday at 2:30pm we were driving in to pick up my kid and my husband noted the giant military helicopter - over head—bigger than what we usually see
Is this due to the new dipsh@ts running things?
I have noticed the same thing in Fairfax. I have an irrational fear of helicopters flying above me and have noticed SO many more the past week.
Ditto in Alexandria.
Anonymous wrote:I saw two large military helicopters fly over my house in Potomac today and while that’s not unusual, they were flying low for what I would consider normal and we’ve been hearing helicopters circulating around quite often since orange took over. Last week I assumed they were flying frequently and low maybe related to the Inauguration but it’s been nearly every night. Also, maybe not a smart idea to try to intimidate FAA staff into resignation. Air traffic controllers are federal staff afterall.

Is the name-calling really necessary?
