Jason Eaton, 48, arrested last night. Another white dude with a gun who feels empowered to shoot brown men and women. But yet all we hear is how colleges need to do more to combat anti-semitism - because it's fair game on Arab and Muslim lives, I guess.

anybody else ever been to Burlington Vermont or seen UVM? It's smaller than Tacoma Park, MD and people are generally easy going. This is horrible, horrible horrible on so many levels.

Jason Eaton, age 48. Looks like he was formerly in the US army. Will be arraigned today @10:30 and police will give a press conference.

Our daughter was home from UVM for the holiday. Lots of agita within the UVM parent community about this one, but it appears to be completely unaffiliated with the UVM community (although it is scary that this happened less than three blocks north of campus). This should definitely be prosecuted as a hate crime.

Did they count random murder of female muslim doc in Houston as a hate crime or is it still under investigation?

Its just so sad whenever any innocent loses their life to hatred, regardless of their race or religion. We need to be better than that, no matter what our differences are.

I think previous PPs were just pointing out that these three men, along with the boy who was killed and his mom who was stabbed as well as the Stanford student hit by a car, were all attacked while they were just living their regular lives. And that is concerning.

This is terrifying. My heart goes out to those young men and their families. However, this is not surprising with the purposeful demonization of Arab and Muslims pushed by the media, our politicians, and many PPs on this board. These deaths are not happening in a vacuum.

Here is video from the lockdown. I feel bad for the teacher who had to flee.

Will any of these kids be disciplined?

I’m not supportive of these actions (the student protests, etc.), but I don’t consider the teacher’s actions any less inflammatory than what Susan Sarandon said and did.

In both cases, I’m fine with what they said and did, actually.

But why are the very same people outraged by Sarandon (or celebrating her being cancelled) not outraged by this teacher?

The teacher went to a rally and held a sign that said, "I stand with Israel." How in the hell is this "inflammatory?" After they suffered a gruesome terrorist attack at the hand of savages, she stands with Israel.

Sarandon, OTOH, made a tasteless, callous statement.

It isn't but just like the phrase "Palestine shall be Free" it is part of a longer phrase that has an implied potenitally inflammatory meaning.

Oh, please. Joe Biden said he stands with Israel. There is nothing at all inflammatory in supporting Israel's right to defend itself.
DP

Israel's "right to defend itself" has historically been used as cover to engage in the mass slaughter of an entire people. So yes, that is inflammatory.

So not a college student associated with Hillel.

But rather a "very fine person" - I wonder who he voted for and what news outlets he consumes.

(I don't really wonder)

What a tragedy for those kids.

Why is no-one commenting on this? The only people who have died or been shot at in the IS have been Palestinian Americans.

A 65 yo Jewish man was killed in CA when a pro Hamas protester hit him with a megaphone. The pro Hamas protester has been arrested .There is blood on each side. Let’s wait and see if this is a hate crime. Everyone thought Samantha Will’s murder was a hate crime but then it turned out to be not.

The 65 yo Jewish man's death wasn't some random hate crime, though.

Of course it was random hate crime.

No, it wasn't. It was an altercation that he provoked.

Show me evidence that he provoked it.

He showed up to a rally for Palestine waving an Israel flag.

Hmm, very low bar for “provoke”. This guy showed up at the pro-Israel march and left alive https://twitter.com/StopAntisemites

Your link doesn't work, but I'm betting the guy is younger than 65 or 69 years old. The suspect's lawyer also said Kessler had been abusive at the rally, and those who know him said he often "spoke his mind". LAPD also ruled out his death being a hate crime.

Just remember this when you argue that the Arab students’ death was not provoked,

Why?

DP. Seriously? You're blaming the man who died for somehow "provoking" a violent physical act. Nothing justifies slamming someone in the head with a heavy object, causing them to fall. So according to your twisted "logic," the three Palestinian men must have done something to "provoke" the gunman. Right? Right.

My logic is based off of the investigation. The shooting of the Palestinian men hasn't been investigated yet.

WOW. Your comments tell us everything we need to know about you. Just disgusting.

There are more videos of the same guy coming close to kids and telling them they are not real jews among other hateful things. You are trying really hard to prove that Kessler cause his own death.

So if a pro-Palestine activist shows up at a pro-Israel event and is in any way demonstrating support for Palestine, they are fair game for assault?

No, and neither was Kessler. But they'd still be stirring up trouble that could be easily avoided by staying away.
