The ranking is consistent with other rankings and general knowledge about the strength of these schools.

Did any of you private school parents look at the posted ranking? If you did, y'all ain't too bright.
Now let see if y'all can figure it out.

We all see that in the top 20, the top private schools are ranked higher than non magnet public schools. If you’re at Poolsville or TJ then kudos. This thread is about W schools, and there is only one in he ranking and it’s at the bottom at 18.

My goodness. You're really that dumb ?
Let me give you a clue: (private, public). Let see if you can now figure it out.

I know what this idiot is getting at. He is looking at the number ranking assigned to public and private schools. Niche doesn’t assign numbers when looking at both private and public schools together, but they do rank them in an order on the list. Niche also assigns numbers for Catholic school rankings separately as well as just private or public schools amongst themselves. You can play with the list by using the filters. I know you public school families are smart enough to figure it out.

Anonymous wrote:Do private kids take MAP math test?

It will be easier to see the levels and compare. AIM math was pretty good. I am a math enthusiasts and liked what I saw in public in AIM math in middle school. Just based on what I heard, I don't have sample data, majority of kids were in 95 to 99 percentile in MAP test in AIM math class. Now it hardly means that pubic is better. It simply means that they have a large enough population to form a class for math kids who are really good in math. Not sure you can find enough kids to offer such classes in private.

They don't take MAP. They take ERBs which are harder than MAP. My kid has done birth. Her scores on the MAP testing were significantly higher (96% and above) vs. her private school ERBS (math 92%) and (English 67%).The fact that you do VERY little writing or analysis in MCPS definitely hurt her compared to other private school kids.

There are many good privates beyond the top five and as mentioned, they blow away the W schools in the rankings. Only one W school in the top 20...the rest are privates, TJ, and a magnet.

Looks like it’s 2 magnets, Whitman, and McLean. And there are no non-magnets until Whitman at #18. Amazing how that can happen, despite no acceleration in math or STEM in general.’It goes:

1. GDS

2. Sidwell

3. TJ

4. NCS

5. BASIS McLean

6. Madeira

7. St Alban’s

8. Holton

9. Potomac

10. Episcopal

11. Landon

12. Maret

13. St. Anselm’s

14. WIS

15. Poolesville

16. Georgetown Prep

17. Rochambeau

18. Whitman

19. Stone Ridge

20. McLean

Ranking has 50% weight for state assessment proficiency, SAT/ACT scores etc. These scores have 1 to 1 relationship with socioeconomic status of families. Obviously only handful of publics are going to appear in such lists.

Private school kids don’t take state tests. But continue to try to justify.

50% weight is for something which is not really telling you much. Ranking has 50% weight for state assessment proficiency, SAT/ACT scores etc.

I am not here to convince you, simply share what I found.

It seems like a useless ranking then.

Once again — that’s for districts. Not individual schools.

No it’s not. Someone above posted the K-12 ranking methodology. https://www.niche.com/k12/rankings/methodology/

McLean HS is a Fairfax County Public School.

Why don't you present data used for ranking? No need to debunk or support anything. Everyone can read and make up their own mind.

Yep. They wouldn’t be criticizing it if it supported their argument.

Can you share how individual rankings are calculated?

Thanks.

It says

We've worked hard to craft our rankings as a blend of student and parent reviews alongside dependable data.

I can't find what data they are using. Their data for district wide ranking is useless. It will be interesting to see what they use for individual schools.
