Good question. I've not discussed with my son. My sense is "districts only" would be better. That said, our coach typically uses the district and regional tournament games as opportunities to bring some of the stronger JV players up as recognition/motivation.

Agree, as I stated above, it is watered down for that region to allow everyone in. I also think the Cedar Run district still picks its regional rankings based off of regular season standings and not the results of the district playoffs, which in that case, why play the district playoffs at all if the final standings don't mean anything? It makes me wonder who runs the entire show that allows different rules for different districts. Same rules should apply to all teams no matter their district. Looks like Patriot district playoffs start tonight while other districts are finishing up regular season play this week. Is this an advantage or disadvantage to Patriot teams?
The whole playoff system should be that regular season standings set forth the rankings for district playoffs. Top four advance to regional play. Top two advance to state playoffs. Simple. I have heard rumors that the state playoffs will go back to a rotating basis again, which I believe is a correct format. Historically teams from regions C & D are stronger as a whole and seems to allow easier passes regions A & B to the state final.

This is correct for the Liberty and Concorde districts. The Patriot district and another one have an “all in” regional format where every team goes to regionals. Waters it down in my opinion and this is another reason why Robinson and Lake Braddock’s district playoff dates do not match up with other districts.

So it looks like there were three teams with four conference wins in Patriot (South County, West Springfield, and West Potomac) and a round robin with the head-to-head tiebreaker (SC beat WP, WP beat WS, and WS beat SC). West Springfield apparently came out ahead on the next tiebreaker and got the #3 seed.

Some of the 4/5 games will be OK but the rest will be pretty bad. Nothing you can do about it except shrink the field and not let the lower seeds play in the post-season at all. Those teams get crushed all regular season so the playoffs probably don't feel any different.

I hate the opening round games because coaches can't win. The higher seeds need to play their starters for at least the first half to get in reps in an actual game situation but you look like a jerk if you run up the score
