How many times do you “research” a production company before booking something at the Kennedy Center. Most reasonable adults assume that TKC doesn’t promote cults.

Because the consensus is that it is not a cult. That's your opinion and not widely held.

So you do or you don’t research performances beyond the Kennedy Center descriptions? I’ve gone to many, many shows there over decades and have never googled the production companies.

Why can’t TKC provide an accurate description on their website and promotional materials?

That’s your own failure to plan.

So you do or you don’t research performances beyond the Kennedy Center descriptions?

I do. Don’t you read reviews from multiple sources? Casts change all the time in productions and some are better than others.

No, I don’t read reviews of shows that are scheduled out months in advance because the casts aren’t set and individual performers wouldn’t affect my decision to see a performance. The KC description/video has been fully sufficient.

Why can’t TKC provide an accurate description on their website and promotional materials?

Well that’s your problem. As a “researcher” you should have read the reviews.

Why are you still here beating a dead horse? You’re not getting the answers here. Nor in the thread you created in Religion.

You are confusing posters.

I’m not a researcher. I’m just a regular KC subscriber who expects the descriptions to accurately represent the performances.

The description is accurate. You just disagree with it.

The description is not accurate.

Where does this mention anything about fundamentalist propaganda?
“ SHEN YUN’S unique artistic vision expands theatrical experience into a multi-dimensional, inspiring journey through one of humanity’s greatest treasures—the five millennia of traditional Chinese culture.
This epic production immerses you in stories reaching back to the most distant past. You’ll explore realms even beyond our visible world. Featuring one of the world’s oldest art forms— classical Chinese dance—along with patented scenographic effects and all-original orchestral works, Shen Yun opens a portal to a civilization of enchanting beauty and enlightening wisdom.
Traditional Chinese culture—with its profoundly optimistic worldview and deep spiritual roots— was displaced by communism in China. Today, only the New York–based Shen Yun is keeping this precious heritage alive on stage. And it’s an experience that will take your breath away.”

It’s very telling that they NO NOT include an accurate description. Because they know most people wouldn’t go see it. They can only get an audience by misleading advertising.

Deep spiritual roots doesn't make me believe it's going to be a lecture on quantum mechanics. It means I can expect God bothering or New Age nonsense.

I wouldn’t expect religious propaganda from a “cultural” performance.

DP. That five millennia stuff is a giveaway.

For religious propaganda? No.

Yes.

That just means 1000s of years of “culture”. Not religion.

It's going to come as a shock, but religion is older than Western science. Anything referencing thousands of years of culture is going to have religion intertwined if not tightly intertwined.

There is sharing the history of the culture with religion intertwined.

And then there is pushing religious propaganda by extremists.

Still trying to push the cult angle? Give it up.

I don't think the cult angle should be given up. I mean, you have the guy at the top who can heal you without using medicine, just with his magical powers (but only if you believe strongly enough in his ability to heal you). Then you die like an idiot because you refuse modern medicine. I would definitely support the cult angle.

So, Buddhism is a cult? Steve Jobs famously tried to cure his cancer using Buddhism. That didn't go well for him, or anyone that has tried it.

I have no respect for religions who pretend that the faith is enough to cure diseases. I am not sure if Buddhism actively promotes avoidance of modern medicine. Is there a guy at the top who pretends to heal you with his god-like power?

You mean like Buddha?

No, I meant someone like Li Hongzhi.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15486623/

So, is Buddhism a cult because they pray for faith healing from a dead man?

The article talks about "a relatively late development in the history of Buddhism" and clearly calls it "the cult of the healing Buddha". Do you expect me to know more about this than the experts who published the article?

Relatively late, as in 1st century BC. Around the same time as the start of Christianity. So, is Buddhism a cult?

Seems like you are horrified that you were exposed to a different point of view, a different perspective, or a different set of beliefs. This raises the question as to how secure you are in your own beliefs. I could understand your stance if you later discovered that this was a fundraiser for invading forces in Eastern Europe, but exposure to a different set of beliefs is educational, not an endorsement.

Not really horrified, just pissed because I gave them money so they can keep spreading their fundamentalist religious propaganda. You should not be concerned about how comfortable I am with my own beliefs. However, your post raises the question of what you consider education. I wonder what you find educational about the information according to which "atheism and evolution are the Devil's deceit". This is the definition of religious propaganda with no educational value whatsoever. This is a fundraiser for a fundamentalist religious cult.

I’m glad you did. You’re repetitiveness here for weeks is obnoxious. It’s wonderful they got so under your skin your incapable of letting it go. That it cost you money is just the icing on the cake.

I have to be repetitive because new posters keep making the same (obnoxious) arguments. It looks like you got the main idea of this thread (and you don't enjoy it anymore), so feel free to move on to a different thread and never look back. It's a free country.

Nope. You could move on with your life. You want to keep bumping this thread over and over to whine, then others can comment and point that out that all you’re doing to whining. Free country and all.

My whining was informative for at least several people who decided to *SKIP* this show. And thanks to people commenting on the thread (including you), the thread gets bumped and others become aware of the scam. So thank you for not moving on with YOUR life.

Sorry for the double post - I had to make a correction.

I can’t hear you over the violin accompanying your whining.

OP created a helpful thread.

You’re the one whining.

Looks like this struck a nerve with you too.

LOL. Seems like you’re projecting. Can’t seem to let it go, huh?

You responded, so you can’t clearly. I’m just here to razz OP. Guess it’s working.

So you’re a troll. Got it.

I’m sure the OP is happy every time you bump this thread.

I see you’re still bothered. 🤗

I think it’s great.

I didn’t know it was a Trumphumper show until this thread so I think it’s useful info for many people.

Keep bumping.

OP at least takes it in stride. But you’re seething.

Ok, Trumphumper. You get off on that, right? Anything to own the libs?

See - you’re seething. Why are you so filled with rage?

So you get some twisted satisfaction thinking that you irritate people?

Are you in a cult yourself? That sounds fcked up.

Keep on raging. Great for your heart health!

Sicko

Still angry I see.

Not angry at all. Just exploiting the troll for bumps.

Tell us more about why you troll.

Your name calling says otherwise. And funny you ask about trolling since you’re now trolling. I love it!! 🤗

I’m just bumping for OP.

You don’t need to be angry to call people out for trolling.

Eh, like I said, name calling says otherwise. You just didn’t like your angriness getting pointed out. That’s ok, it’s since helped change your behavior.

Whatever gets you off, troll.

Owning the libs. Watching Trumphumpers spread propaganda. Twisted all around.

Uh oh, you’re angry again. Your poor heart!

Thought you’d get off on that.

You’re twisted just like the Trump-loving Epoch Times nuts who push this religious propaganda.

You’re still raging.

Anything for a bump. Thanks.

You’re welcome (when you’re calm).

I’m always calm. My word selection depends on my intention.

Your raging posts say otherwise…

It’s cute that you actually think I’m “raging”. Troll goals?

I’m here to support this useful thread. Because TKC isn’t transparent about this performance or the trash organization behind it.

Thanks again for your help. 👍

It must be exhausting to flip flop all the time between being a rageaholic and being polite. The internal strife is a lot. Keep up the calmness, much better for your health. 🤗

Are you qualified in any way to give medical advice? Or you are just a patient who shares the advice received during therapy?

Likely the latter. And probably also has heart/BP issues based on earlier comments.

I just care about all the angry posters! There’s no need to get so angry.

Did you go through anger management and became proficient with the steps? You can be our psycho the rapist.

You caught me!

Why would you assume this production should be completely secular? It's not the role of the Kennedy Center to censor or provide warnings about religious content, or any content with which you may not agree.

I am completely aware that it would be really hard to fill a theatre with people entertained by quantum mechanics, so I doubt anybody expected that. Deep spiritual roots do not include a position on evolution though. This is a turn of religion into the stupid territory (where the stories from an old book are more credible than the reality).

It's not entirely clear who is made you the arbitrator of what is and is not part of spiritual beliefs. There are quite a few spiritual beliefs that aren't supported by science. Homeopathy and astrology come to mind. Those get a pass for some reason. I find those far more offensive than questioning evolution.

I believe homeopathy and astrology get a pass because nobody tried to force them into science classes. Can you explain why you find them more offensive than questioning evolution? If you must denounce evolution as part of your spirituality, you are one of those who refuse to accept reality. You are free to do it, but I have very good reasons to question your sanity.

Because astrology and homeopathy are easily disproved. Yet, we find homeopathic "cures" practically everywhere. Newspapers still publish horoscopes. Newspapers that are supposed to be factual. I never see any disclaimers about the fraudulent nature of homeopathy or astrology.

At this point, I find questioning evolution more offensive than astrology and homeopathy put together. There is a strong religious movement who questions evolution all the time to keep their followers brainwashed and politically aligned. You can't claim that about astrology or homeopathy. Come back to me when they try to force the teaching of astrology or homeopathy in science classes. I will be on your side.

+1

Most people aren’t trying to push astrology and homeopathy as core tenets. Or teach their kids that they are the only truth.

Creationism is for RWNJs.

Deep spiritual roots doesn't make me believe it's going to be a lecture on quantum mechanics. It means I can expect God bothering or New Age nonsense.
