+1. I can’t believe the stupidity of the posts here! And I’m a woman. All the draft opinion does is send back the matter to the 50 states! We’re no better off in the current formulation. If you don’t like what your state us doing you vote the guts out of office, move, or go to the state where you can get the procedure you want. This is not rocket science.
We are about to be stripped of a fundamental right we all held as americans for almost 50 years and maybe our daughters as well depending on how long it takes to fight this war once again. That is an outrage. Not something to just shrug off. You are weak.
Do you know what fundamental means or do you just insert where you want?
DP: I consider bodily autonomy to be a fundamental right also.
As does everyone who isn’t a misogynistic POS.
Voting is a fundamental right, having children is a fundamental right, getting an abortion is not a fundamental right.
Body autonomy free from government interference is the right (deciding to have or not have children are different sides of the coin).
Exactly. Having children (or not) is a fundamental right.
You already decided once you got pregnant. You could have done many, many things that are available to not have them.

Wrong. It’s a right but not a fundamental right. No matter how much you want to believe or not. You can’t simply say something is a thing when it’s not.
It’s one of the most basic rights. To control your own body.
So were you as concern about people's right to control their own body when it comes to the Covid vaccine mandates? Are you also telling your kid you refuse to pay tuition at any college that mandates the vaccine? Because the students should have the right to "control their own body?" Would be interesting to cross reference the schools that are allowing student to "control their own body" by not requiring the vaccine, with the states that will still allow abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned--I'm guessing there will be very few schools.

In the current formulation women have autonomy over their bodies. If they are against abortion they do not have to have one. If they aren't, they can. Now, if you live in a state that is going back on 50 years of precedent and want bodily autonomy, you have to find a new job elsewhere, uproot your family, sell your house etc. Or hope that your state isn't so gerrymandered to prevent your vote from having an impact. Don't be dense. Whether you are for this or against it, no one reasonable thinks it is inconsequential.
There are 50 states, pick one.
Why not let us just narrow it to you get to decide about your body and I get to decide about mine. Land of the free and all.
And your baby? Does your baby get to choose about their body?
An evolving cluster of cells entirely dependent on my body does not have the capacity to make choices. I make the choice whether or not to let those cells evolve into a baby that I am responsible for.
Exactly. It isn’t a baby until it can exist outside of my body.
But if you got in a car accident that was not your fault and lost the baby, you would say it was a baby.
I called some 8-cell blobs “babies”, but they aren’t babies. Heck, I even call my dogs “babies”.
