Its a shame because the people who just wanted schools open don't yet know what they signed away in exchange. Yay schools will be open but also masks will be banned and we'll have no ability to keep kids safe if/when there is another dangerous variant.

Schools will be open but now half the english curriculum has been banned by the crazys. Good luck to your kid on the AP exam.

Schools will be open but VA's public school reputation will plummet - good luck on college applications.

Schools will be open but unable to hire qualified teachers and teachers continue to leave the profession in droves rather than continue to be screamed at by newly empowered parents. - Enjoy your 35+ student class sizes and inexperienced barely certified teachers.

People wanted schools open but did not accept that there are consequences and it isn't possible to just magically return to 2019. Now everyone gets to pay the price.

DP. Wow - such a great example of fear-mongering and outright lies.

“Half the English curriculum will be banned”?? Do you even hear yourself? Get a grip. There were three books that had very valid concerns about graphic depictions of rape and sex. Only one of those books was even part of the English curriculum at all. But sure - your gross hyperbole is so believable.

“Masks will be banned”?? Again - get a grip. If anything MANDATES will be banned. Do you know what a mandate is? Feel free to keep your kid in a mask - no one cares. The rest of us will resume normal life.

“VA schools reputation will plummet”? Newsflash: you’re a little late. Curriculum has been so watered down in recent years that they’ve been coasting on their excellent reputation of years past. Make that decades past. Hopefully Youngkin will appoint people to the VDOE who actually value academics and merit over “anti-bias trainings.”

And qualified teachers have been leaving the profession in droves long before this last year. Why? Because many can be paid higher salaries elsewhere without having to deal with social justice BS. Private schools, for one. With luck, VA will get some new charter schools which will attract the best teachers.

Any more ridiculous lies you’d like to spread?

Every single time, it’s in response to some dumba$$ comment like “Youngkin didn’t say anything that is an attack on women’s rights.”

If we can all stop posting dumba$$ comments like that and all agree that he’s pro-life and will sign anti-abortion legislation then we never need to post it again.

NP. Can we agree that any legislation would need to start in the General Assembly? The governor doesn't have the authority to ban abortion by executive order.

Yes, and the governor also has the power to veto bat-sh1t crazy GOP bills.

The last time the GOP had anti-abortion voting power in the GA (2012) they pushed through 24-hr waiting period and unnecessary ultrasound (after pushing for vaginal probes).

2022 GOP is way crazier and ambitious. 2021 was record year for the most anti-abortion legislation - ever.

I don't see any evidence for your claims about the 2022 General Assembly in Virginia.

That’s what these fear-mongers do. They fear-monger and lie. It’s all they have.

Loudoun and Fairfax’s school boards attacking rape victims and their parents; and covering for rapists is so stunning and brave and feminist.

You're still out-of-sorts about Terry's loss, aren't you? Well, take the weekend to get your tantrums out before you head back to school on Monday.

You voted for a spineless lackey who DGAF about democracy or women or schools. Question is were you duped or are those qualities you admire?

Youngkin didn’t say anything that is an attack on women’s rights.

He’s prolife and would sign anti-abortion legislation that the GA may send over. He admitted he couldn’t say more until elected. I guess we will see what he does.

“Friends, together, all of us, we will protect the life of every Virginia child born and unborn,”

“ I’m going to be really honest with you,” Mr Youngkin says. “The short answer is in this campaign, I can’t. When I’m governor and I have a majority in the House, we can start going on offense. But as a campaign topic, sadly, that in fact won’t win my independent votes that I have to get.”

Okay so he may want restrictions on uterus-owners.

That’s not the same as attacking women, and you wouldn’t think it was unless you are some kind of TERF.

While I voted D, I'm not really into the doomsday scenarios. If you can remember - let's meet up here in 4 years. I'll wager not much will change in terms of schools in the next 4 years - either way.

Lol - happy to meet up in 4 years.

But considering that more than one VA school board has advocated for not just banning books they don't like but holding an old fashioned book burning, this past week, I don't think we'll have to wait that long.

Three more moms, including SE Cupp, tell Jake Tapper why education was such a key issue for these elections. Listen and learn, Democrats.

It is school, just not the CRT stuff or vaccine or mask mandates. They’re angry that schools stayed closed for as long as they did and that the Democrats seemed dismissive of parents’ concerns about the resulting disruption and learning loss. I certainly understand their concerns but they do come off a bit self centered… like all that matters is them and their family, not the healthcare workers or teachers or the medically vulnerable. I think Democrats’ biggest mistake wasn’t necessarily closing schools, but for not showing more concern about the fallout now. Terry couldn’t even manage to fake it. He just didn’t connect with suburban women as much as he needed to.

Yes, we all know this is why Youngkin won suburban moms who previously voted Democratic. Why is this such big news to this Pamela lady? Everybody else knew this.

McAuliffe was just a boring, uninspiring candidate. If we'd had someone young, fresh, more progressive, they would have won.

You still don't seem to get it. There is now a backlash to your "progressive" movement. It's not selling.

+1 I don't want someone progressive anything. I want someone under 60, sane, fiscally smart and not morally repugnant. Youngkin fit that metric but I would have voted for a Democrat had that choice been available.

Any Democrat who fits that basic metric will come with a side of woke. That's not going to work for me.

That's right. Nothing will make you give up your racism, right? Slavery wasn't that bad was it?

What exactly do progressive woke people offer that will get rid of racism? They love to say that white people and this country is racist no matter what we do because of our history. There is no solution, no absolution, no path to forgiveness or making things right. That’s what people are tired of. If progressives actually presented real solutions for change they’d get more votes. But instead we are supposed to learn how terrible we are and then… nothing.

You completely missed the message. It’s more like you are “racist” if you don’t want to acknowledge current racism and take steps to eradicate.

Capisce?

I acknowledge it. Now, what are the next steps?

That is what I’m highlighting. No one ever goes beyond what you said. .

1) Reflect on your own perspectives, opinions, and actions.
2) Learn about how racism persists in US today. Look for other perspectives. Listen. Learn.
3) Influence in your spheres. Say something. Look at who you know and talk to in your community. Look for ways to support black-owned businesses. Etc.

More reflection and learning, no action except how to spend money (which isn’t relevant to how to vote).

This is what I mean when I say you can’t call people who vote R racist when there is actually no race based policy difference between D and R.

Sorry, I thought you were asking what an individual could do.

Encourage your representatives to:
Support (not ban) different perspectives, opinions, experiences.
Support (not ban) anti-bias training.
Examine policies that result in huge racial disparities - healthcare, education, wealth, justice.
