We're okay with masks continuing indefinitely. Kids are all wearing them fine. Their parents may be berserk with anxiety but the kids are fine and going along to get along.
We are not okay with masking indefinitely. So how about in January, you continue to mask, and we are allowed to not mask.

How about no thanks to this because you will be putting my kids at risk.
(I hope you don't teach science)
How will I be putting your kids at risk? Aren't they vaccinated? If they are immuno-compromised, then they are free to continue to wear high quality masks for as many months or years as preferred. (I teach math, so I understand risk analysis.)
+100 I feel like I have done my civic duty. Once the younger kids have had a chance to be vaccinated, then I feel like I should not be required to mask anymore.

I don’t know what else we could possibly do and our area is already in relatively good shape even without that age group being vaccinated.

Unless teachers and students together protest and demand the elimination of a draconian mandate like blocking your airways then you will not get any change.
It’s about your control and suppression.

If a child is vaccinated and his teacher is vaccinated, wearing a mask really does not affect how at-risk he is in his classroom even if some kids aren’t vaccinated. Since he is vaxxed, it is highly unlikely he will get it - and incredibly unlikely he’ll get really sick from it. If families feel they need an additional layer of protection they can have their kid wear a mask.
I am totally supportive of removing mask mandates for vaccinated kids now. Unvaccinated kids can continue to wear masks.
Vaccines aren't necessary to removing masks - schools are mask optional throughout the US and Europe without any problems. And requiring vaccines is just saying "poor kids have to keep wearing masks" (sounds similar to people who like their service staff masked at restaurants and stores, like a modern day caste system).
Considering 1/3 of parents of 5 to 11 year olds are getting them vaccinated at this time, this is just a way for the "mask forever" crowd to throw up more roadblocks. At the FDA hearing, they don't even know if vaccinating that age group would reduce transmission at all.
Help is on the way for our kids on January 15th! Can't wait for Governor Youngkin to free us from these child masking rules that are appealing to those most irrational people in this area (like Smart Restart).
Agreed. This discussion is beside the point. Youngkin will do his thing his thing in January. That's the off ramp. Freedom!

School boards will still have the final say, though, won't they?
