We will see how it plays out in a few weeks when the "proposed" boundaries are released for Skyview!

Makes perfect geographic sense to send those on northeastern side of Reston Parkway to South Lakes. So much closer than Oakton. And, send those on southwestern side between Reston Parkway/West Ox and 286 to Skyview.

Simple and saves money in transportation costs. Safer, too.

We can see right through you, Fox Mill mama.

Not my post but I am curious, are Fox Mill parents not allowed to advocate for their kids to be moved to Skyview? Are only Crossfield parents allowed to advocate for their kids? I just want to understand the rules here.

Fox Mill is a smaller school, it would have 3 classes if it was not a Japanese immersion school. A decent number of kids transfer in for Japanese. The kids attend Carson for MS and would like to go to HS with their Carson classmates. Skyview is closer to Fox Mill. Many Fox Mill parents prefer AP to IB and would like to move for that reason as well.

It fits all the boxes for moving to Skyview. The only argument I have heard for not moving Fox Mill is that SLHS test scores would suffer. As a parent of a Fox Mill kid, I don’t see it as my kids responsibility to bring up test scores at SLHS and to have to participate in the IB program, which is an awful fit for the school. Skyview is closer, has AP, and will have a larger group of kids that he knows.

I am aware that other people want their kids to attend Skyview and have no problem with them advocating for their school. I don’t see why it is necessary to try and make it sound like people advocating for their school to move are somehow being sneaky.

We could say ALL of the above for Crossfield, too, by the way.

Dp. *Your* kids don't want to go to Oakton, but you do not speak for all of Crossfield.

DP. Nor do you, but I bet you sure do claim to represent the Crossfield community when lobbying to the school board!

Bottom line- Fox Mill and/or Crossfield could end up at Skyview for a variety of really good reasons, we will see how the Skyview boundaries look later this month, until the boundary possibilities are released to the community all this talk is really just "made up scenarios".

Fox Mill parents can absolutely advocate for their children but what they shouldn't do is say "X is better for Crossfield" when we know they're only saying that because they know that Fox Mill moving to Skyview will create a huge gap at South Lakes. Find a better way to advocate for your kids rather than throwing others under the bus. Geez!!

The Fox Mill parents that I know on this site have not thrown Crossfield under the bus. There are Crossfield parents who live near Fox Mill who happen to want to attend Skyview. The poster who made the post about splitting Crossfield was a Crossfield parent, not a Fox Mill parent. I can’t help it that a decent number of Crossfield parents want to stay at Oakton and don’t want to move to Skyview.

Other local jurisdictions that either only have AP or have a smaller percentage of IB schools have done a better job than FCPS of boosting the percentage of high school kids enrolled in advanced classes over the past 5 years. IB is a drag on FCPS, but try convincing the faux liberals on the School Board that a program that boasts about creating “global citizens” and “lifelong learners” isn’t great. Of course a lot of South Lakes families want to move to Skyview.

But I do hope our kids friends who opted in get transport for at least the four years they committed to.

Who knows.

However, this would explain another reason why Meren did not go to the meeting.

I have said from the beginning that Fox Mill would not be in the boundary because of Meren. She may let all of Floris go, however.

The logical option was-and still is --the one that sent McNair, Coates, Floris, and Oak Hill. It was the only one that makes sense. RIO screwed that up.

It made sense for many reasons--but mostly because it met the requirements for a boundary shift that were stated in the comprehensive boundary study,. Tell me, why would they set those standards for one boundary shift and not another.

Distance, overcrowding, etc. Split feeders are still an issue in this area and will continue to be.

How would Oakton parents “screw up” boundary changes that only move kids from Chantilly and Westfield to Skyview and other Chantilly and Centreville kids to Westfield?

Should have included Crossfield in that list. I think that was Option A--the most logical solution that made the most sense. Sorry, my bad. Most of Crossfield should be at Skyview. They could send all those kids on the east (north?) side of Reston Parkway go to South Lakes since Fox Mill Woods is already there. Send Franklin Farm and Navy Island to Skyview along with all of Floris. The loss to South Lakes from Floris kids could be made up by those on the northeast side of Reston Parkway

They are not going to turn Crossfield into MORE of a split feeder than it already is.

Oh, it would make it more equal.

The School Board rep for SLHS who doesn't want to lose any students to Skyview. She is petrified that SLHS scores will drop if it loses Floris and Fox Mill, both of who have a large population of parents who want to move to Skyview. She has been ghosting the Fox Mill PTA since October. Crossfield or Fox Mill were under discussion only because they are small schools whose populations would get Skyview to close to 2,000 students. I don't believe their are similarly sized ES that are at Chantilly or Westfield to make up that number of kids. The numbers of students lost would not significantly diminish SLHS or Oakton. Meren and SLHS knows that they fought hard to force Floris and Fox Mill into SLHS 20 some years ago to improve test scores and are afraid of what will happen if they lose those populations. It is that simple.

Crossfield has a very vocal opposition to moving from Oakton. Fox Mill is split on the move but a significant number of rising 9th graders opted into to Skyview. I have no clue how many kids from Crossfield opted in.

Reid and the School Board allowed themselves to get pushed around by loud parents in the just-completed county-wide review.

If they behave the same way again there are enough Oakton parents who vocally oppose moving to Skyview to probably get their way.

That suggests they’ll either move Fox Mill or just start Skyview off with four feeders and invite pupil placements. Meren may want to keep Fox Mill at South Lakes, but she doesn’t have veto rights and she’s not part of the ruling junta on the School Board. On the other hand, Reid may hope that pupil placements will boost Skyview’s test scores and overall profile.

Your definition of “pushed around” is vastly different than ours. Just sounds like sour grapes.

Well, they are claiming (again) that they are going to be guided by the factors in their boundary policy when crafting the boundaries for Skyview, but they just deferred to those who yelled the loudest last time.

Sounds like you don’t like accountability.

Accountability is fine. Talking out of both sides of your mouth isn’t.
