And as bait to the Republicans, it'd mean both the rest of Virginia and even Maryland suddenly turn much more reddish.

Balances things out all around.

Now lets see how the partisans gleefully rubbing their hands at the prospect of two more Dem senate seats react to this....as that will tell you everything you need to know.

I had been for giving back the residential areas of DC to Maryland (the Virginia portion was in the 1840's) and leaving just the federal enclave as a separate entity where nobody would be a full-time resident. But this idea is so much better even. I am all for DMV statehood encapsulating the main DC bedroom communities.

And Democrats would be vehemently opposed, down to the last man/woman/it.

Unfortunately, the Republicans have 230 years of history and precedence and the Constitution behind them, however.

They don’t pay federal income taxes and Washingtonians do.

People, please read the whole thread. All of your bright ideas have been addressed.

I don't believe in taxation without representation. So, DC residents should not have to pay federal taxes. They should be treated no differently then Puerto Rico.

DC residents should not have to pay federal tax, should not be subject a national draft, should have free college for all residents, and should have medicare for all residents, regardless of age/income - or make them a state.

If you treat DC like Puerto Rico then DC residents who do not work for the federal government would be exempt from federal income tax. They would still pay Medicare, social security, and other taxes. And the 20 percent or so who work for the government would not be exempt from any taxes. You would get fewer federal benefits yet pay close to the same amount. Makes no sense.

Except Vermont and Wyoming have fewer people and both have senators. And DC will soon have more residents than Alaska.

Nah. People are leaving DC because of The Virus

Evidence of this, or are you just using it as some pathetic excuse to continue disenfranchising 700,000 people?

Missing the point is a choice, too. As is believing that taxation without representation is fine.

Then move. It’s not rocket science.

DC is not going to become a state anytime soon.

I don't live in DC. Also, I don't support taxation without representation. Which is why I support DC statehood.

Would you support Dallas statehood?

The Dallas metro area has 7.2 million people, which is more than at least 35 states. If people in the Dallas metro area want statehood for Dallas, sure, I don't have a problem with it.

Also people in Dallas already have congressional representation so what is the point of your question?
