Biden could have used executive orders in the same manner as any other POTUS would have to control the flow of migrants crossing the border. That's what needed to be done until Congress got their act together with formal legislation. EOs should be last resort but when they're absolutely necessary, there should be no hesitation.

Biden is gone now and his immigration failures are no longer a Dem political problem. Any failures going forward are on Trump until 2029.

PP here. It is a huge problem, for sure; but Democrats who minimize the impact (many on this forum) are likely not impacted by the burden placed on social services, hospitals, and schools.

PP left out that the border would remain open to thousands streaming across until it could be closed. If it had required the border be closed completely, Trump might have supported it (but Democrats wouldn't).

Though border businesses in Texas still have not recovered from that fiasco.

Abbott put his own police officers at the border when Biden refused to control the flow of people. He installed buoys in the Rio Grande to discourage people from crossing. Last I checked he is a Republican.

He just removed certain band aid protocols that were in place to control the flow before there was appropriate long term fix legislation in place to control the flow. His actions or inaction in that regard is inexplicable. Not as troubling as when Trump sat in The White House for 3 hours and ignored pleas for his help as a mob of hundreds were seeking to hang his VP but Biden's failures in this regard are troubling as well.

He deliberately refused to control the flow. If he or Harris had won on 2024, the next move would've been mass amnesty of those millions for sure.

The biggest political failure of Biden's presidential term (other than the 2024 collapse that handed Trump and easy election victory and second term) was using EOs to remove the band aids that were in place to stem the flow of migrants crossing the border very early in his term and then relying on our do-nothing Congress to do something about it. A bill on finally coming to a vote two years later in 2023 is a complete joke and so was a fired politician (Trump) having the power to tank the bill.

A legitimate president (Clinton, Obama, Bush) would have demanded proper legislation be in place before opening the border to a flow of migrants in numbers our system can't handle. That's just basic common sense lacking in awful presidents like Trump and Biden. No, the issue is that if the people being deported are not given their constitutional rights to due process, then NO ONE gets constitutional rights to due process. Personally, I like that provision of the US Constitution and feel it is worth fighting for, even if I don't like some of the people who also receive that treatment. It is part of what actually makes America great and if we lose it, then America is no longer great.
