Where were the boy's parents? What were they doing? How did this minor with mental health issues get his hands on a gun!?

Their son was going to school, working a PT job, dating a girl and he was 17 years old. They were probably used to him being gone a lot and when he was home, he was not very communicative. He had been through some emotional/mental health issues in the past but the parents were hopeful that things were getting better when quite suddenly they weren't better at all..

Well, for those of us who recognize the mother's alleged actions as a shockingly ineffective way to intervene with a hate-filled lunatic, it's hard not to wonder whether the mother became so focused on the boyfriend's repugnant ideology that she couldn't see the very real danger at hand.

She was probably mainly worried that her daughter was going to run away with this kid. Her daughter was naive and impressionable and the boy was negative influence on her. I doubt that she ever considered he would come into their house and kill people.

I've been checking the news every day for updates, but I can understand why they're not coming. I also suspect that part of the reason information isn't coming out as gossip is that the teens probably attended a very small school for children with mental/emotional difficulties, which means they simply didn't have as wide a social as kids in public or a mainstream private would, and parents who knew them through the school are less inclined to talk lest it bring scrutiny upon their own children for attending the same school.
