I don't know, dude. Now their handful of Trillionaire Oligarch Overlords have even more money to use to fuck up our elections.

Then let's fuck them up. This bill steals outright from the least of us to give to BILLIONAIRES.

Forgive me, Jeff, as I know you hate Louise Mensch and think she's a conspiracy theorist kook) f the entire GOP is under a RICO investigation for accepting money from Russia and specifically Ryan and McConnell have been implicated in laundering money, this is even more obscene and has a definite last days of Rome feel. We WILL undo this before the whole country gets Kansased.

I agree. This feels to me like the current R Congress knows their party is dead once Mueller is finished, and they are looting what they can grab on their way out the door to Koch-funded lobbying jobs.

Either the GOP is dead, or worse, they won't impeach Trump regardless of what Mueller uncovers, and we will live in a lawless Oligarchal society like Russia.

And what if Mueller does not uncover anything illegal in connection with Trump and his campaign team and Russia?

The sun might set in the east, too. Anything's possible.

We are dancing monkeys controlled by the 0.1%. People do not have the stomach to actually force things to change, just dog & pony theatre to pretend.

This is what you get when you vote Republican.

And people DID vote Republican, and these are things that represent their values. Not saying I agree with it (particularly the two examples you gave above), but they put people in office to represent them. Same thing with Democrats.

The whole reason for lower-middle income paying more (the lower don't pay in) is the abolishment of the 10% bracket. Congress figured that by doubling the standard deduction, the lower-middles would make it back up (since the vast majority do take the standard). But there is a donut hole of those who do itemize, and by starting their taxes at 12% on the first $10,000, there's a shift upward.

As for the upper-middles complaining that they can't deduct the mortgage on second homes, or the complete mortgage on their $1.5 million first home, suck it up. (As my liberal neighbors said to me when I complained about my obscene health premiums, "you can afford it.") My sympathies lie with the minority of ower-middles who will pay (slightly) more.

What are you writing about? The Senate brackets start at 10%. Yes there can be holes in who itemizes BUT itemized deductions are amounts one has supposedly spent. Explain to me how one has the resources to itemize 3500 charitable at 10-25k. I am wondering if some jurisdictions will cancel what many think are not necessary projects since people are more conscious now about SALT. Why can you get EITC with up o 3500 of dividend income? Tell me.

Hey- some people pay 1000 a year privately for some services that others write off as part of property taxes.

They’ll just bribe the left next time and you suckers will be appeased. It’s a rigged game.

No, we won't. The Democrats actually do try to solve problems. They have a big money problem, but they've been willing to address campaign finance reform and other sources of big money.

You partisan hacks are such dummies. Bankers, insurers and pharm became richer than God under Obama. Our plutocracy is rigged on both sides; they literally laugh at hoi polloi shilling for Ds and Rs as if it matters.

This is so true yet liberals are so deluded that they cannot see it. There was not a single prosecution that emanated from bankers and other financial types literally bring the US and world economies to the brink of collapse in 2008. And Obamacare was a give way to the insurance and big pharma industries.

Liberals love to deride Republicans as being dumb and uneducated. Their inability to recognize that Obama and the Democratic party as a whole has become one that takes care of the elites who are allied to them shows how completely out of touch they are.

Choosing to spend your money on a luxury item like private school or homeschool should not be a tax-advantaged decision.

We have a ludicrous thread that seriously talks about Pelosi becoming the next president after removing from office both Trump and Pence, total elation that Mike Flynn is cooperating with Mueller and thereby implying that he is going to bring down Trump. Never mind that not so long ago liberals were castigating Flynn for being a liar and treasonous.

Get a grip on yourselves liberals and if you want to implement your agenda, you have to win elections. If you want to win elections you have to understand what voters want and address their concerns. And those voters include white voters who still make up 70% of all voters. You can win 70% of Hispanic votes and 90% of black votes but that is not enough. And, until you change it, it is the electoral college that matters - not the popular vote when it comes to electing a president.

No. Apparently, what's needed to win elections is the ability to rig them so only the people you know will vote for you are able to vote. Republicans keep trying to pass ridiculously unpopular legislation and then saying that the problem is that Democrats don't have policies people want to vote for.

You need to change therapists. This one is not working.

What part of what I said isn't true? Are you arguing that Republicans are passing (or trying to pass) legislation that the majority of voters actually want? Are you arguing that the people with political control in Washington weren't elected by a minority of voters? Which of my fact-based statements aren't true?

I know that taken only in the context of this bill, this argument is a fair one. But what irks me, as a high-tax state UMC person who will likely pay more taxes, is that I'm going to pay more taxes because I'm a professional who works for her high salary while financial vultures who "earn" more than me through financial vehicles will pay less. I've written elsewhere that I'm fairly impressed at how the GOP managed, in this bill, to specifically target the core of the modern Democratic party (for better or worse), which post-WJC is college-educated, liberal professionals. The types of rich people who vote Republican will pay less...the types of rich people who vote Democrat will pay more and no one will care about us. But, I suppose, we'll have less money to donate to the Democratic party leading to even more GOP hegemony.

For a while now, it's been pretty clear that the best thing to be in the US is a member of the rentier class. This bill just solidifies our return to an aristocratic society with an entrenched elite.
