Yes we shave our legs and underarm hair.

OP here. I think that PP asked IF you were the the attorney or the legal secretary (notice which one she listed first) because you didn't state it up front. She didn't assume that you were either one. You just said that you worked for a law firm.

But many of those women have careers that find dreadlocks, cornrows, and natural hair unacceptable.
That is more reception that reality. I worked in a major new york law firm for 7 years with shoulder length braids and never had any issues. I interviewed with an got a job offer from Goldman Sachs with said braids. Natural black hair can be styled professionally.
Maybe this isn't a recent story, but I don't think much has changed since this occurrence. Hilton was sued about fifteen years ago because they fired a manager for wearing braids. Hilton stated that it was not professional. Some law offices provide training to their new attorneys. One such training is career coaching in how to dress for success. Black women were specifically told that braids and afros were a career killer. PP I don't know if you were the attorney or the legal secreatary, either way, your perception is not the reality of many.
I am a lawyer. BTW, I am curious who told the black women that natural hair is a career killer, was it another black person? In the 15 years that I have had my hair natural all the negative comments have come from other black women. Including such gems as "wow, you must be so busy, you did not get to DO you hair"; you make so much money, why dont you get your hair DONE"; "you have such a pretty face, why do you wear your hair like that"; I could go on. Ursula Burns sports an afro and managed to make it to CEO of a Fortune 500 company, so it can done. BTW, its very telling that you assumed that I may have been the legal secretary - thanks a lot! Get a clue and take the money that you spend your salon visits and go buy some self esteem.

OP here. Where did you hear that?
