I'm pretty sure that's not going to work. Far easier to remove the religious holidays that are unnecessary in FCPS.

And get MAGA? NOPE!

The very liberal left has become as crazy and extreme as MAGA. Pick your poison. This extremely left school board is terrible. A Republican school board (or at least some Republican board members) is looking better every day.

There is no extreme “very liberal left” in the U.S. Our far left is other intelligent developed countries’ centrism.. Try again.

No,

Our far left is bat$#it crazy extreme.

If you think the FCPS schoolboard is far-left batshit crazy extreme, you need to get out more. They are left of center, at best, and I'll take that over the nutjobs who want to ban books. I don't love the current board or superintendent, but they're not far left. And your choices for sane Republicans will be even smaller, especially in this era - they all want to gut the public schools, sell it for parts like their private equity masters, and hand out vouches to the UMC.

The umc is pretty far left.

The reasonable solution would be to give each student 2 excused absences to flex for religious holidays, let everyone else attend schools those days, and work with the other northern Virginia school districts to uncouple spring break from Holy Week, tying spring break to the end of the quarter like Catholic schools do.

Eliminate the religious holidays and leave the national federal holidays.

Eliminate the early dismissals, except for the end of the quarter, OR move the early dismissal days to Fridays only.

They’re complaining because they’re accountable to voters and she absolutely isn’t. Keep calling and writing and it will change.

Elementary teachers need more planning time. They get next to nothing. While school provides day care, teachers still need time to do admin tasks (emails, grading etc). Where do we get that time from?

This was not what Reid said in 2024– then it was mean Richmond MADE us do this and its not our fault…now its about planning time? Have a real discussion about where to get planning time, but the bait and switch (and doing it Weds) is an insult. Friday early dismissal would get fewer complaints.

Either get the time from wherever it came from in 2023, or add planning days (paid) when students are off— just like indigenous peoples day. Weds before Thanksgiving, Presidents, Jan 2, there are plenty to choose from.

Hey, cut them a break, this week is the rare 5 day school week! The only one in all of November.

That’s a separate discussion to have and a legit one. But early release the way it is is ridiculous. It’s such a disruption to a schools day that very little learning is done in the morning. Kids who are supposed to have math/reading/writing in the afternoon get less instruction time.
