I heard fcps is going to start a pilot program that will allow your fetus to take advanced algebra if they qualify. The goal will be to have them win a Nobel prize in math by 11th grade.

There is no Nobel Prize for math. There is the Field's Medal, which is the closest equivalent. There are also other very prestigious Nobel-teir awards for achievements in particular areas in math.

Man, you really have no sense of humor. Probably all that advanced math.

Every math major studies differential equations both in dedicated d.eq. courses and other advanced math courses where they arise. They are applicable in a wide range of disciplines (including higher level math itself!) not just engineering. Your comment is already showing a lot of ignorance about what advanced math is for. The most abstract levels of pure math are decoupled from all practical application in the real world.

I disagree with you and agree with previous poster. Most top universities align the curriculum so that you are taking it alongside relevant CE or EE classes. Not sure about math majors but for engineering, previous poster is correct.

I received an email to inform me my kid is eligible in 6th Grade algebra 1 HN around 3pm. Sully District, in person learning :” Dropping the Course: Students may drop the course without penalty at any time during the first quarter.

Withdrawing: Students who withdraw after the first quarter will receive either a "W/P" (Withdraw/Pass) or "W/F" (Withdraw/Fail) on their transcript, depending on their grade at the time of withdrawal.

Expunging the Grade: The grade from this course can be expunged from your child's transcript during the first nine weeks of their 7th-grade year.”

I agree with this.

Or other scientific models

I’m fairly certain nobody who is implementing this program has even taken Linear Algebra. Blind ppl leading a math curriculum while failing to understand real world applicability.

Different score but probably the same percentile. They might also look at who was successful in the class and who wasn't and see if there is a trend that they can use to help select the "right" kids.

I'm keeping him for at least 1st quarter. We can re-evaluate after 9 weeks. If it is causing stress/frustration/poorly taught/not adequately rigorous, I'll move him to math 7.

The math 7 Q1 topics are
Unit 1: Building community with data
The student will apply the data cycle (formulate questions; collect or acquire data; organize and represent data; and analyze data and communicate results) with a focus on histograms.
Unit 2: Rational numbers and exponents
The student will investigate and describe the concept of exponents for powers of ten and compare and order numbers greater than zero written in scientific notation.
The student will reason and use multiple strategies to compare and order rational numbers.
The student will recognize and describe the relationship between square roots and perfect squares.
The student will compare and order real numbers and determine the relationships between real numbers.
Unit 3: Expressions (Note: Unit 3 spans Q1 and Q2)
The student will simplify numerical expressions, simplify and generate equivalent algebraic expressions in one variable, and evaluate algebraic expressions for given replacement values of the variables.
The student will represent, simplify, and generate equivalent algebraic expressions in one variable.

Equations and Inequalities is quarter 2, so missing Q1 feels like mostly just a M6 repeat and nothing new is missed.

I'm shocked to see functions/graphing is nowhere in the M7 standards. I thought that would be foundational for algebra 1, but I guess it's really only covered in M8/M7H/Prealgebra whatever you want to call it. Looking at the M7 standards, I really wish FCPS would push AAP students into M8/M7H/Prealgebra whatever in 6th grade. It's better algebra preparation anyway.

For those with kids in 6-algebra in ES (not ones going physically to MS), have yours started actual math work yet? Have you been given syllabus? I don’t want to see it, just wondering where they are in starting kids with actual learning. And what are teachers saying they will do for the summative retakes? All FCPS held to must allow retakes up to 90% but different schools, even diff teachers handling different what allow-some say summative quiz can be redone itself and some say can’t redo summative quiz itself but if do higher on first try on unit test, that first try score on unit test can replace quiz grade…. What are they doing in ES?
