When one way is based on lies and misinformation, the lies and misinformation poison how a democracy works. Why should lies and misinformation be a regular part of the "marketplace of ideas" That isn't what Adam Smith had in mind. The founders of our country understood this.
DP
Looking back over the past 8 years, I would argue there have been more lies and misinformation coming from the left.
Starting with the "Trump Inaugural was bigger than Obama's" to "Trump won the 2020 election" and the documented 30,000+ material lies told by the Trump administration, I don't think whatever list you want to generate about lies from the left will come close, but I am game. What lies and misinformation is coming from the left? (and I am not saying there aren't but I am curious)
Read this link posted in another thread.
It is just the beginning......
And, if we want to talk about lies....... there is a reason the WaPo stopped documenting lies when Biden was elected. He tells several lies every time he talks. And, he has been fact checked on several of them.... yet, he tells them again and again and again.

Sorry, no, not giving thefp, whatever that is a free click. Have any, you know, real sources?
Good grief. It was written by a current editor at NPR - Uri Berliner.

A nation with an aging population is a nation ripe for misinformation and propaganda. In other words, it's easy to lie and trick older people. Their physical and cognitive functions are on a downward trajectory, yet they still vote and control large amounts of money and assets due to the magic of compounding interest over time.
It's a perfect storm for predatory psychopaths who crave wealth and power.
+1 Hence we have President Biden.

Do you know who protested Vietnam? Who marched for the ERA? Who fought for Roe? Gen Z thinks they’re so much more evolved but really, they are just young and impressed with themselves without really understanding what generations before them have done. Not ONE old person in my family likes Trump and the Dem volunteer who takes my mother to Dem meetings is 87 and far more active in politics than many 20 year olds. Quit the stupid battle of the generations and do your part to improve out country.
My only beef with the older generations, which includes mine, is their obsession with cable news. Not all, but many, have been poisoned by their daily regiment Fox News, MSNBC, and the likes. Those of us over 60 years old disproportionately account for the ridiculously consistent ratings in the prime time cable news world. Otherwise, I have nothing but praise for us old folks in a comparison with younger generations.
Only one of these channels has not been successfully sued for 9 figures for lying to their viewers. they are not the same.
No, they aren't the same but their agendas are the same- keep the sheep in line. They both do a great job of it but Fox's strategies are a little shadier. There are people out there that watch cables news without taking what they hear with a grain of salt and that's a big reason why we are more divided politically than ever before. Say what you want about these cable news channels but one thing is for sure, they are very good at what they are paid very well to do.

The 2024 presidential race is indicative of more than just our elderly population being tricked. Most of us in every voting eligible age group are accountable for at least a small piece of the blame for a likely Trump vs Biden rematch debacle. Stop blaming the old folks for everything.
