No self respecting Jewish academics will be heading to Florida, where people believe in " Jewish space lasers."

young people move to FL and TX because it's cheap, not because of politics. I think some conservatives who tout how so many are moving to TX/FL don't understand the reason why people are moving there.. it's not because of their politics, but in spite of their politics.
These young people are just starting out, and if they are making $100K, they are being taxed a lot, so they escape to tax havens like TX and FL. Yes, I know TX has high property taxes, but young people aren't buying expensive homes.
They do move to Florida because it’s cheap. Some move back because they found out you get what you pay for.

That’s not what the hiring officials at these universities are saying upthread. It looks like a lot of temporary gap-filled positions are occurring this academic year. I wonder if they will have to resort to the same level of professionals used for their K-12 schools in Florida. Remember to become a public school teacher in Florida now, all you need is be a veteran of the US armed forces. No college or educational skills required. They just want you to fill a spot and teach by state sponsored PowerPoint.
+1 But they can’t get veterans to do it anyway.

What exactly is a Jewish space laser? The internet is weird.

Ron DeSantis has turned the New College of Florida, a public liberal arts college in Sarasota, into a social experiment, staffing the Board of Trustees with hard-right allies with the goal of erasing what he calls "woke" ideology. The result, according to the website Inside Higher Ed, has been utter "chaos" and a campus that can barely function.

Most states don’t tax military pay anyway.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Who wants to bet $100 that more people will move in than out FL in 2023?
Because people have an idealized of "beach life" that is not really true. I won't go into all of the reasons why that is (they are well covered) but it has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the belief you'll be watching Manatees from the beach while sipping a Marg in the sun all day. . . . So, let's be honest about that.
But think of all the people driving around the dmv with their Florida plates. Those people count as living in Florida, right? Even though they clearly don’t. So how many people are domiciled in Florida for tax purposes, but don’t actually have to deal with the negative consequences of desantis’ idiocy?
Until you just said it, I hadn't realized it. But I do see this a fair amount. Cars with FLA plates in the DMV.
A lot of military personnel are stationed in Florida at some point and it is quite common to switch their home of record to Florida to avoid state income taxes for the rest of their careers. That accounts for a lot of the Florida car tags in the DC area, especially in Virginia. They also vote absentee in Florida.
