Agreed. It’s incredibly racist for Charles Allen and the others to ignore all of the black people shot or terrorized in their neighborhoods. He’s so busy being cool and progressive that he doesn’t realize how he comes across.

No. It’s a lot worse. I no longer carry my cell phone, wallet, or wedding ring while walking our dog in upper NW. We are strongly considering moving to Virginia.

This is wild. I walk around Rock Creek Park, Dupont, Adams Morgan, Woodley, Cleveland Park, Cathedral Heights, Mount Pleasant, Columbia Heights, and Forest Hills frequently as well as around L'Enfant Plaza during and after work. I feel just as safe as I did five years ago. I even walked to Union Station last week to see what all the fearmongering was about. Again, it feels just the same as it did five and even ten years ago.

By any crime metric it’s 100% worse than 5 years ago. It’s wild that you didn’t know that.

Right, but the baseline was (and is still) so low, that a 100% increase in the risk of being victimized by crime doesn't actually move the needle all that much. I live in Northeast - probably not too far away from where PP walked around Union Station - and I completely agree that crime is trending in the wrong direction, but it's not productive to pretend that DC is a wasteland hellscape where everybody walking around eventually gets mugged on a regular basis like being called for jury duty.

I won't say that it's wild you don't know that though, since statistical illiteracy is rampant in our society.

Perfectly said.

The people proudly posting how terrified they are of everything should be embarrassed by their complete lack of critical thinking skills.

It's as ignorant as posting "I bought TWO Powerball tickets, now my chances of winning the jackpot have increased 100%!" We'd rightfully shame someone who said that for being financially illiterate yet someone who does the same thing for crime gets a dozen morons nodding along with them.

We’ve had 199 murders this year. 600 carjackings, which is more than a property crime—each one of those carjackings comes with the threat of murder.

I’ve accepted the “everything is fine” crowd fundamentally doesn’t care about the dead people. I assume they think it can’t happen to them or anyone they love.

As a former DC resident and current VA homeowner, I say welcome. I live in a calm, low crime area where my kids are outdoors on bikes for most of the year. For the most part, I do not worry about crime and I'm pretty much at ease. I see little value in living in DC.

Wake up. How did the city government react during the protests? Did the city government prioritize educating children? Do you think a city that reacted like this is a good place to live? Do they share your values? The answer is NO.

Agree.

Crime is going to get a whole lot worse before anyone in DC government lifts a finger to alleviate the crisis.

We are definitely looking to move elsewhere.

The counter to this anecdote is my neighbor carjacked and the man murdered outside my building.
