Montgomery County Police issued a press release today announcing that a traffic stop in Germantown on March 8 led to the discovery of 20 suspected Fentanyl pills, approximately 21 grams of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine and drug paraphernalia. This is the third press release regarding traffic stops that MCPD has released since Councilmember Will Jawando introduced Bill 12-23, the Safety and Traffic Equity in Policing (STEP) Act, on February 28, which will limit traffic stops that he says have resulted in racial disparities.
Per MCPD: “Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Community Action Team have arrested 38-year-old Harry Perkins of Germantown for Possessing Fentanyl and Crystal Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute, on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. At approximately 11:35 p.m., officers observed a Chevrolet Equinox commit a moving violation in the area of Circle Gate Dr. and Wisteria Dr. Officers initiated a traffic stop of the Chevrolet in the area of Great Seneca Hwy. and Wisteria Dr.
Officers made contact with the driver and Perkins, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet. Perkins initially provided a false name to officers in attempt to avoid prosecution. Through investigative means, officers were able to positively identify Perkins and determined that there were 4 active warrants for Perkins’ arrest. Officers asked Perkins to exit the Chevrolet to place him under arrest. When Perkins exited the Chevrolet, officers observed drug paraphernalia on the passenger seat, providing officers probable cause to search the Chevrolet.
Great work by the Moco police! I think we have one of the best police forces; it's just too bad that there aren't enough police to deal with the growing crime problem.
It's just too bad they aren't willing to do their jobs
This is a bad attempt at trolling. Those of us paying attention are well aware that isn’t the case.
"Those of us paying attention" is code for people who believe everything MCPD sys but don't look too closely at what they are actually saying
police are just like anyone else. some kick butt and are super proactive and innovative in their job. some do what’s required and no more. some slack.
but overall, it is a FAR better department than most in the nation. so when people here complain about them in the aggregate, I really have no use for that.
That is because you don't care when they abuse people who don't look like you, and then fail to fire those who engage in misconduct.

I'm a DP.
People are quite capable of caring about two things simultaneously. We can see the positives of our local police department while - at the same time - disapprove of inappropriate police behavior.
We have a good department, one that has been held to higher standards than most national departments for decades. Are they perfect? Of course not. Nobody is saying that they are. You just aren't going to hear many people decide to hate all police because of the actions of the very few.
I don't hate all police. I don't worship them either.
