Not troll. It's on the scanner.

Ugh. Where do you listen to the scanner?

Re test strips: how easy is it to use? And doesn't it require removing a piece of a pill - which may be a deterrent for addicts? I'm all for having narcan more accessible and making testing strips available. And, yes, of course more awareness about drugs is good. But shouldn't schools be trying to address the immediate problem of ensuring kids are not doing drugs in the bathrooms or on school grounds to extent possible? I do not understand why the bathrooms are not monitored if we know this is going on.

Why would I make that up?

I’m not going to say how I know but I’m sure if you look at the scanner someone posted about the lockdown you will find the call for it.

Individual fentanyl tablets have been made that look like smarties. I have not seen any report of their being entire packages of smarties sold by dealers just that the individual pills can look like a Smartie. Thankfully, hardly anyone gives out Smarties for Halloween but we probably would have chucked any that we found this year out of an over abundance of caution and because they are normally one of the last candies eaten at our house.

And news flash, they also aren’t disguising fentanyl as candy to appeal to kids. It’s just another smuggling tactic. Put it in candy boxes or kids toys in hopes those won’t draw attention

but they can't carry it in schools

So then where is this big brain logic of posting it all around schools and training kids in how to use it coming from?

I think people are hoping schools will change. But also kids aren't in school 24/7 and plenty of parents are sending kids to school with narcan anyway.

I also think schools should have test strips available.

What good are test strips?? What am I missing here? Are teens now supposed to run chemistry labs on illicit pills? Or teachers? Why?

It would be the same as handling out condoms to kids. The test strips would show is fentanyl is present. If kids are thinking they are taking Percocet but fentanyl is shown to be present hopefully they will be more cautious?

Like I absolutely get and have talked to my kid ENDLESSLY well before this overdose happened about this. I have family first hand experience and this isn’t new.

My kid rolls their eyes every-time because at this point I don’t think they will do pills. BUT I also want them to know that IF they do there’s measures they can take to make sure they don’t die.

The tests are easy to run. And yes, as a former addict I would have run the tests if this was an issue when I was deep into it .

They can’t? Why not? Honest question.

They can’t even carry aspirin themselves. It has to be dispensed by nurse with authorization.
