Good day. No added sugar. No snacks. Healthy meals. Probably about 1300 calories. Just a walk in the evening. Got my 10k steps. Tomorrow same plan. Stick to it.

Driving down Monday, not Friday. Weird typo.

Hope things were good for you both!

Thanks for all the support, New Person (NP) and Alexandra. I have listened to Weight Loss for Busy Physicians, but it didn't speak to me for some reason. Maybe I should try again. I know what to do; I just don't do it routinely.

Thank you for the suggestions to find something else to do before eating mindlessly. Smelling something is interesting, Jumping jacks, huh? Worth a shot.

I am on track for today. I had yogurt with fruit and nuts for breakfast and a green salad with falafel for lunch. I had like 10 Pringles my daughter pawned off on me. Dinner is bean tacos with guacamole. Plan is nothing else.

I head out on travel again Monday. One of my co-workers is trying to eat healthy so I told him we can be buddies on the trip. The happy hours will really get you if you let them. I don't drink alcohol (much) but the bar snacks are so tempting. I need to plan ahead and have some frozen meals in my hotel room or something. I'm driving down on Friday and will go to the grocery store to stock my room with fruit, oatmeal, and milk along with some frozen meals so I won't be tempted to eat junk. I want to do better. I was so hoping to get my bloodwork done this month and I really should not put it off. I'll schedule the appointment in early May. I need to get a mammogram anyway.

Hope everyone is enjoying a bit of rain. I am.

I learned about it on DCUM so you probably have. But the early episodes have served me as both an education and almost a meditation: I listen while I’m doing chores that often involve food (cooking, cleaning up the kitchen) and I find it easier to avoid mindless snacking—and sugar in particular—when her voice is in my ear.

I’m now a full week down with zero sugar or bread and feeling good. My poor DH nearly fainted yesterday though. 😆 I’m encouraging him to eat more.

Great work “new person “ I hope your husband can find a balance today

Plan: oatmeal with blueberries and milk
Salad with falafel for lunch
Some kind of dinner that isn’t junk food

No snacks. Low sugar. I can’t afford to eat junk everyday for the rest of my life. It’s not even that good tasting!!

Hope things are better for you guys.

I’m sorry Kate, it’s so hard. The thing about food is you can undo all your will power in a minute. I’ll be so careful all day and then bam a moment of weakness/being triggered and it’s so easy to eat 600 calories of absolute trash.

I like the suggestion to listen to a podcast- I haven’t actually tried that one but I’m going to put it in my list! My kids are small so I don’t have a lot of time to listen but putting some thing on while I clean is a good idea. I’ve also seen people talk about one called maintenance phase.

Kate, let’s pick something we can do instead of eating sugar at least for today. If I want to eat sugar to deal with my feelings I’m going to go smell something relaxing and do 10 jumping jacks. Both of those have worked for me in the past. I had a couple sips of my kid’s milkshake yesterday and I don’t regret that. It’s the mindless/emotional eating that I hate. We can do it.

Good luck all -
Alexandra

Alex—geez, I know. I really do. It was easy at first to string the days then it wasn’t suddenly. Bodies are weird. I’ve wondered if putting stickies on my cupboards would help. Hang in there. I know things are stressful for you.

New person— welcome! Nice to have your husband on board. It really is a key to healthy eating.

Nice to hear from you Kate! Great job staying strong on the road! That would be hard for me.

I got frustrated and ate a bunch of Easter candy yesterday. With everything going on it’s so easy to think “well no one would expect me to be perfect right now! Or on a diet or whatever “ which is silly because the only person with expectations is me… it’s so easy to think I’ll buckle down when things are easier but we’ve been on a roller coaster for about 5 years now and yes this latest hiccup is a tough one but I just can’t assume it’s going to be easy any time soon. That’s how I ended up 20 lbs heavier than I’d like. I have not been able to find time to do any significant exercise aside from some brief walks and I know that’s hurting my emotional health too. I just don’t know what to do about it. Kids have been up at night and up early and I have to sleep at some point…

Anyway thanks for reading. Felt good to write that out. Will try hard to get in exercise and keep away from sugar today.

Hi all! Brand new to the thread (I started reading at page 21) but DH and I both gave up added sugar a week ago so I thought I’d join for support. So far, it hasn’t been bad at all for me but my poor DH is really suffering. I’ve been eating a ton of fruit but he’s not a fan, so he’s missing the sweetness (and, honestly, the calories too—I don’t think he’s eating enough).

I’m hoping to lose 30 pounds over the next six months or so, but I also want to change our diet long-term for the health of the whole family. It’s certainly easier in spring than winter!

I did really well with sugar yesterday! One small piece of great chocolate and pretty much nothing else. The scale is still not budging though, will need to stay strong today. Was rushing through breakfast and had cereal with 9 g of sugar so not a great start to the day but I will try to keep it under control.

How are you guys doing?

I was doing super well for a couple days and most of the day yesterday but then had several pieces of candy last night. I don’t even know why. I’m tired and stressed and we have Easter candy still around but I was resisting it before. I will never lose weight if I can’t string together more good days than this. I’m so frustrated with myself. Going to try to find a good balance today. I only had 20 minutes before the kids got up today but I did a short Pilates workout, so that’s something. I can not seem to find a time to exercise that consistently works but I will keep trying.

Low or no sugar yesterday. No snacks. Today I’ve had healthy food and no snacks.

Sorry yesterday wasn’t great Kate. I’m doing pretty well. Ate some homemade baked goods yesterday but a reasonable amount and it was worth it. My kids made them which is pretty new. Have a stressful appointment today and mentally preparing myself to cope in healthy ways. I would love to lose a few pounds before I wear a bathing suit this summer….

It’s a new day and a new week!

I've found that eating more spicy foods reduces my sugar cravings. I get keto friendly buffalo sauce and add it to roasted veggies or protein. I'm using Primal Kitchen brand because they sell it at Costco, but anything marketed as keto friendly would be just as good
