We should import oil from whomever we can until we get our factories and refineries up to production. Then once to do that become the biggest exporter and ban all imports of oil from overseas. Bidens terrible energy policies and his failure to have any sort of foreign diplomacy strategy has killed the American economy more than it already was under his watch
Do energy companies, who made huge profits in 2021, bear any responsibility in this issue? Just curious what your thoughts are on their role.

The fact that they made such massive profits exposes the lie. They are profiteering. The private sector has vastly more to do with the spike in gas prices than anything Biden is doing.
It always comes down to government meddling. In a mostly-free market, producers can't just charge whatever they want. They are subject to changes in consumer demand as well as competition. The only time that producers can charge a premium above fair market price is if there is some abnormal increase in demand or restriction in supply. Joe Biden's policies have severely disrupted the domestic supply of energy to the extent that there are no good/quick domestic options to make up for the shortfall, and thus prices rise.
Given that gas prices are driven by futures prices, Joe Biden can cause an immediate adjustment in crude oil prices by greenlighting pipeline projects or resuming the leasing of government land for oil exploration. These supply assurances will cause crude futures to drop, translating to a direct decrease in gasoline prices at the pump.
The question is not how to lower gasoline prices, but whether Biden has the balls to do it, knowing that the progressive wing of the Democratic party will tar/feather him if he goes through with this.

Trump's the one who made us more dependent on Russian oil, so don't know how you figure that one.
But now is the wrong time to go back to work in person.
Wow the drugs you’re on must be good.
Trump didn’t shut down the pipeline
The pipeline is irrelevant. It’s just a distribution project. It wouldn’t change the global supply of oil or gasoline prices in the U.S.
