If there was a drug that helps you jump off the ice, rotate four times in the air and land on one foot with the other extended behind you, everyone would be taking it.

That is all.
Are her Olympics over?
She has three (I think) more events.
These were her best events, skies out both times.
Monumental disappointment.
Sorry your life is so sad that you feel the need to say such cruel things about an athlete.
Ok so she messed up. I wouldn't exactly say she sucks. She is still a very accomplished skier with an incredible amount of wins.
She had 2 bad races and is probably inside her own head right now. These bad races still don't erase her other accomplishment.
I am hoping she can come back and do well in her next 3 events, but even is she doesn't she is still an amazing athlete.
My heart aches for her. If you follow her at all, you know she's still very much actively grieving the loss of her dad. Mentally, she's in a really rough place.
+1. I feel awful for her. She's obviously going through a very hard time, doubting herself, and I'm sure the absence of her dad at this most important competition with all this pressure takes a huge toll. The amount of pressure that world-class athletes endure is incredible and attitudes like PP's only makes it worse. They're talented and work insanely hard, but they're still human.

if she took a banned substance - rules are rules. Especially recreational drugs - that was her choice.
If it turns out to be something as stupid as a cold medication or something in her makeup, then I think THAT would be unfortunate.

I think Zhu Yi’s dad is a spy. He returned to Chine to work in artificial intelligence.
I don’t like Gu. Just answer the question about your nationality. I can’t believe women are being told they can’t ski due to their body suits but Gu can ski for China even when she might not be Chinese.
I find her very intimidating. She answered those questions like a seasoned politician. There is something off about a teen that is that polished and slick. An adult in a teen body.
That is the work of her tiger mother. Her mom controls all media, asks to review articles, controls all access to her daughter. Her mom is also notorious for all her scary demands.
I guess. I think it is worse not to try to protect a teen that is getting this level of scrutiny. She answered the questions the way they needed to be answered to protect herself.

This. I saw teen Olympians. They are at Princeton, Stanford. Right. Rich people who have time to train and money to hire coaches.
And China looks pitiful getting its athletes from elsewhere. I thought they were supposed to be powerful. They are borrowing athletes from Canada and the US. I guess they don’t think the west is evil when they benefit from it.
I'm guessing the athletes get generous scholarships to go to these type tiered schools given they're hard core and arguably the best of the best in that sport.

She is extremely well spoken. I think it is to be expected that someone with a near-perfect SAT score would know how to organize and express her thoughts. Although no politician would say they don't care about "placating the uneducated who will never win the Olympics". That was kind of badass.
