This. And they don’t care that it’s a losing issue at the polls because they are actively killing our democracy where votes just won’t matter. Between gerrymandering, removing voters from registrations, enacting laws making it harder to vote, actively seeking to make people distrust our elections and beating the drumbeat the “we are a republic and not a democracy,” they plan to take over our government and enact minority rule. They don’t care about our country or our citizens. They want to grift and control.

It is hard to make this sense of this gluttony for punishment. Are they so used to manipulating the abortion issue to try to get votes that have no ability to pivot when that no longer works? Don't their constituents get insulted when they are treated like idiots? It is clear that this is not a winning issue for the GOP. Why can't they get that?

Pretty sure Rep. Good is one of those who believe that abortion should be illegal in ALL cases, including when the mother's life is at risk.

I get that he is believes it. But he is a politician which means he has to win. And this is a loser position for winning.

Not in his district, no. They will blindly vote Republican. He's out of Lynchburg, also home of Liberty University...and he's an alum.

It’s a toxic stew of ignorance, arrogance, misogyny, along with a lack of empathy.

This is what authoritarians do! They run an extreme policy and plan to wear us all down. There isn’t a set of beliefs behind this “policy”.

The goal is to make everybody fear that we’re dealing with people who are willing to pull the plug on the grenade. I have zero doubt in my mind that given power the GOP would lock on women & girls who have a period, let alone a miscarriage. We are really dealing with full fascism and yet So. Many. Both. Sides.

They get it, but they also know that if they don’t go harder on abortion, the evangelicals/Catholics/fundamentalists won’t vote for them. The Baby Boomer generation, which has been reliably Republican for decades (yes, I know, “not all boomers;” overall they’re still a Republican voting block) is beginning to shrink and covid hastened that. If they lose the religious voters, the GOP will be done for-done for.

So they’re doubling down. It’s not like they consider women to be people.

Ok but the voters are not complete idiots. They must realize at this point that this is making their candidates lose over this issue.

They really think they’re correct.

And look at the bigger picture. Do you see any signs of Republican voters showing any degree of examination or humility? Any sort of reflection? Even though they were dead wrong on covid, even though they’re getting absolutely creamed when abortion is on the ballot, does Project 2025 suggest any kind of rational approach to this or can you see that it’s just a culture war on their side.

You mean they lied about letting the voters in each state decide. An abortion ban would be about as effective as Prohibition. With birth control, no matter what the religious fanatics want, you would have national strikes.

An abortion ban would be effective-ish and it would be 100% effective in making legal and safe abortions impossible to get for all but the wealthiest and best connected.

And no, I’m pretty sure the mainstream conservative media would do their best to anesthetize Americans against the GOP’s radicalism if they got in power and attempted a birth control ban. “Some say this will end women’s rights fully, but the GOP says this will open the economy in ways we haven’t seen since the 1950s, when America experienced unprecedented prosperity.”

You know they would.

of course, the 1950's unleashed prosperity because of the domestic and foreign post-war booms. I guess maybe that is why all the authoritarians are acting really badly right now, to cause WW3 so there can be another post war boom.

Also, taxes and government spending were quite high and income inequality reached record lows. Maybe big government isn't so bad.
