That would be a major blow to schiff’s chances and the California delegation would’ve gone from two Jewish senators (boxer and fienstein) to zero (becerra and Lee) if that happens.
First, Barbara Lee is 77. No, Newsome is not appointing someone that old. Further, the Af-Am constituency in California has been dropping fast - now down to only 7% of the state's population.
If anything, I could see him appointing like Rep. Robert Garcia. The CA Democratic party is in dire need of new blood.
Second, drop the weird anti-Semitic conspiracy. Jeez.
+1 there is no way Barbara Lee would be appointed since it would make no political sense for Newsome.

I think most people would agree with you that there should be upper age limits for public office. But making it happen is the challenge. We don't have age cutoffs for driving--you think we're going to get them for elected officials? Americans don't like to be told they can't do something.
Can we at least ban political ads that feature 70+ politicians engaging in "strenuous" physical activity as evidence of their vitality?

Who knew Willie Brown is a “longtime friend of the Feinstein family”?

Raised in affluence, Senator Feinstein has long been among the wealthiest members of Congress. She was rich in her own right in 1980 when she married Mr. Blum. After she entered the Senate, she placed securities into a blind trust that is valued at between $5 million and $25 million, according to her most recent financial disclosure required of lawmakers.
“ Combined, the couple’s fortunes flourished to an extent that eclipsed even the senator’s prior standard of living. Her main residence is a 9,500-square-foot mansion in the upscale San Francisco neighborhood of Pacific Heights. Their vacation homes, until recently, included the 36-acre Bear Paw Ranch in Aspen, Colo., which sold in March for more than $25 million, and a seven-bedroom Lake Tahoe compound that sold in late 2021 for a reported $36 million. Current holdings include a property on the Hawaii island of Kauai and a home in Washington, D.C.”

She sold 2 homes for $60 million and her daughter is worried about how they will pay for her home health aides? Talk about being out of touch.![]()
I agree that she has a ton of money regardless, but it’s unclear who actually got the proceeds from those sales.
And as long as there are Senate Republicans threatening to leave her Judiciary Committee seat vacant if she resigns, she needs to stay. Nobody trusts those aholes to rely on rules or precedent or fairness or respect.
You truly think Democrats would do differently in this situation?
