What are "well-rounded kids"? Why do you assume TJ kids are not well-rounded?
Plenty of TJ kids are well-rounded. Plenty of them are also not. If you are around TJ in any capacity, you know this. If they were, they'd have more success getting into schools like UVA. Perhaps not the Ivies, but definitely UVA.
TJ students as a cohort have the highest average GPA at UVA and attend the best graduate schools. UVA has decreased acceptance rate from TJ over time because their yield rate has been low. Top TJ students go elsewhere.
So insecure you need to make excuses? The TJ students at UVA may have a higher GPA than other HS but it is because they have a much higher hurdle to jump to get in. They are compared to the top TJ applicants, many whom use UVA as a safety school. The lower half to 2/3 of TJ is not getting into the elite schools unless they have a strong hook.

These are not convicted cheaters. It is speculation, perhaps from those who are jealous. I suspect UVA saw a low yield from TJ and dialed back acceptances.
The part about yield is correct, but there is a long and detailed history of TJ students cheating. They have a person on their staff for whom about 80% of their job is dealing with Honor Code violations and the ensuing Restorative Justice process. That person wouldn't have a job if it weren't for the fact that TJ students are notorious for bending the rules until they break.
The yield thing is NOT correct. It has no basis in fact. UVA does not yield protect. The yield for TJ students would actually improve if the accepted more TJ kids from the bottom half.

You know what's funny? I guarantee you this is one of the reasons for the low yield rate from TJ also. TJ students aren't about to put themselves in a community where they'll get expelled for cheating.
I only wish TJ were the same. Boy howdy, would that school look different REAL fast.

Nothing will ever happen. TJ has unfortunately been a victim of its college admissions success. They don’t care about anything else. It’s corrupt. And complacent. The system has been played perfectly.
It is FCPS that has to change the Admissions process, and they are currently researching ways to do so. One imagines that CurieGate (grabbed that from a previous poster - hilarious) is going to have an impact on the urgency with which they address the problem.
I am sure, in the end, they will take something that has brought national recognition to the Commonwealth of Virginia and dismantle it . . .
Nope. They'll improve it, and in so doing will significantly raise its reputation within the Northern Virginia community - and also nationally, given that right now it is receiving national attention for its lack of diversity.

As a current TJ family, this is very offensive to bring down the entire current student body like this. Our family has academic integrity, as most TJ families probably have. There might be some cheaters in the bunch, but that does not make all of us cheaters. How would you like to be called a cheater just because someone around you is a cheater?!
TJ families are far too accepting of the cheating that goes on within the school building. Which is inexplicable because it directly impacts their students' ability to get into top schools.
Essentially there are four options:
1) Your family is a cheating family
2) Your family accepts cheating by others
3) Your family has its head in the sand
4) Your family is actively taking steps to address cheating by others

A good example is all of the fake non-profits that have recently cropped up among the class of 2024 and 2023. Apparently they all believe that creating a non-profit is the magic ticket for college admissions? It’s really strange.
Whenever someone does something and gets into Harvard, expect 200 copycats. Never mind all of the kids who did essentially the same thing and DIDN'T get into Harvard, or the fact that Harvard already has someone who did that thing and doesn't need another one.

^ + 1000 - certainly not all of the students/families at TJ are cheaters - not even most of them. But pretty much everyone tacitly accepts it as part of the price of doing business.
