That's a cocktail dress, not a dress for work, unless you are in a traditionally female job.
indeed. very pretty. a 50 year old woman could wear it on a date or to a garden party and feel quite appropriately dressed.
Um, is this a sincere or a snarky comment? So hard to tell on this thread.
well, I'm fifty and I can imagine dreaming my DH would take me someplace where I could wear that.
So why don't you go there yourself? Why are you waiting for DH to "take you" somewhere?
My husband dislikes sushi, and I love high-end Japanese restaurants. I go every now and then with girlfriends, or with my cousin, as these people in my life adore this kind of experience just as much as I do. I dress up a bit and go out with my friends. You should, too.

At the low, low sales price of just $387!
No one cuts like Armani
+1, if the fit on those is good, they're worth a splurge. What's the alternative, buying not quite right black pants on discount year in year out. That adds up. And most people grab a few extra things every time they step in a discount store, it's not hard to rack up $400 in junk.
I've never paid more than about $80 for pants. I would actually consider paying $387 for a pair of the perfect pants that I was confident would last me for year BUT I wouldn't do it for pants that are basically cropped. It's too trendy a look, can't be worn year-round, and can only be worn with heels (which I can't do on a regular basis). If I am going to buy a pair of "investment" pants, they better be a real workhorse, and these pants are just not.

Just ugh. There's just so much wrong with this, starting with how do these people with relatively low-paying jobs (i.e. the journalists) afford these outfits? And why did they put the women who likely actually works in an office every day in an evening gown?

For example, I had a FITTED, 3/4 sleeves stretch cotton blend sweater from the GAP that I wore for all four years of college in the early 2000's. It got washed and dried in dormitory appliances, never handled delicately, and it looked great with both jeans and nice trousers. Fast forward to today - that sweater from the GAP is now likely to be a TENT with slits up the sides and look most appropriate for slobbing around the house in. And after one cycle of wash and dry, will be a pilled ball of wrinkly ragged mess.

God I hate when people with sufficient money opine on the worth of purchases for poor people. When they talk about how expensive it is to be poor, this is one of the things they're talking about. DH and I weren't even poor (except by DCUM standards), but we did with Target, Lands End and Goodwill clothes. It would take us four trips to Target over several months to spend $400 because we didn't have the discretionary income to spend. $400 pants aren't worth a splurge if you haven't got $400 laying around for a single pair of pants, and literally most of us don't.
