That's a good point. And I still don't understand the premise behind OP's sense of uniqueness.
Oyster Adams is one of the best performing schools in the city, and probably 60% Hispanic if not higher. Many anglos work hard to get their kids in.
Why would it be a sacrifice to send DD there?
Oyster Adams isn't a Title 1 school, with only a sprinkling of Anglos in it. Her school is.
Oyster adams was title 1 till about 5 years ago. And there were hundreds of people waiting in line for hours to apply, most of them looking very white.
Again, what's the big deal.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:We mark DD as white and hispanic because both are true. It's funny (not ha-ha) that people look at that on the DCPS summary and complain about "demographics" since the school shows up as <10% white.
Another example of a student and family ignored by OP.

Second, the debate over the the subject line and the OP's definition of "white" is really missing the forest for the trees. I have literally deleted pages of posts debating that topic and there are still plenty of posts on the same subject. You all have just been going in circles. If there is anyone here who doesn't get it, they never will. So, quit trying to make them. Please return to the actual subject of the thread.
Clearly, the OP's child is unique in her school as the only child of her combination of race and ethnicity. If that interests you and you have a question for the OP, please ask it. If you don't have a question but would rather insult the OP, please find something better to do. If you don't have a question for the OP and are pissed off that she didn't clarify the ethnicity portion of her child's uniqueness, your point has been made. Please move on.
And here is the hard voice of authority, choosing to crush the dissent voiced by a minority. First, deleting my post explaining the request. Second, choosing to maintain a factual mistake over correcting it.
If someone ever wonders why there are so few Hispanics on DCUM, even if we account for over 10% of DC population, simply remember this post.
Would you like some cheese with that order?
I think you meant Cheese with that whine[i].
Hispanic PP, be honest please... why are you so worked up over this? Anyone else would have moved on, yet you keep coming back. Where is your dog in this fight? And why are you derailing OP's thread by trying to be the top dog? Not being snarky, but maybe you should start your own thread. Because at this point you sound really petty.
Imagine DCUM had been around 100 years ago.
What would have happened here to the first black person trying to explain why the word "n*gger" is not appropriate?
Yep. Something like "Black PP, be honest please... why are you so worked up over this? Anyone else would have moved on, yet you keep coming back. Where is your dog in this fight? The demographic profiles show ethnicity and race. But the forms you fill out for school, the census and everything else will always say white - non hispanic, and white - hispanic descent. You would check another box if you were, say, Afro-Cuban.
I filled out the sane forms that you did, PP. However, the data published by DCPS online in the school profiles contains the categories listed above. At this point, I am inclined to agree with the PP who said that your objection is to being associated with other non-whites. I don't think you are being reasonable, and at this point, you are actively trolling.
This is insane. The poster above is not me (Hispanic parent). Can you not understand 1) there are multiple people commenting here, 2) the substantial points new PP is raising. Those DCPS categories include both race AND ethnicity. It makes zero sense, and DCPS would never say (because it's factually wrong) that OP's daughter is the "only white girl in her grade"
Would it make you feel better if OP had said "the only white, non Spanish speaking person" in her class? Yes, I agree with the other posters, you don't want to be associated with those other, darker, Hispanics. Just admit it. It's an anonymous board.
