And to answer one post above -- I don't know that it means abandoning ambition. Hank Leung might work better *without* a TD who knows little about the region. They've got two U17 girls teams playing Region 1 Champions League -- one "elite", one "premier" -- and a reasonable ambition might be to have a couple of teams like that every once in a while.

They really haven't made any serious efforts to be a Bethesda or a McLean. Still very much a community club.

The thought process is that the assistant TDs are doing well enough and don't need oversight beyond that.

I'm not sure how long that system will last. But people with whom I've talked are pretty happy with it, at least for now.

Hey, McLean had two TDs until Krieger left.

I'm more skeptical of the SFL withdrawal unless they can come up with some replacement, like the girls High School league they share with BRYC and SYC.

You're kidding? That's insane. Even the smallest rural clubs in remote VA have TDs.

won't hire immediately, or won't hire ever??

I could see taking some time with the process and bringing someone on to start in the fall, but agree that they should have a TD ... at least name an interim?

They're bitter about losing their board spot in 2014 or their sweet coaching gig in 2015, though in both cases, they have no one to blame but themselves.

So if anyone would actually care to discuss legitimate VYS business (which exists): What do we think of the email that went out suggesting the club won't hire a replacement for Gunney? Or the decision to withdraw from SFL?

I'm a little disappointed they pulled out of SFL. My older son played SFL when he got sick of travel and it was great. It felt like travel lite and very fun. I guess playing against your own club feels more like U8. I wish SFL was still an option for my younger kid.

+1. My kid was too young and now I guess won't have the benefit. It sounded like a fun idea to me ("travel lite" as you said).

I like to discuss legitimate VYS business, despite having no connection to the club and no knowledge about it that has not been gleaned from years of reading DCUM soccer threads. Did the email say why there would be no replacement? Without more information, I'd assume this means that the club plans to abandon any plans it may have had to try to become more of a travel soccer power, and return to its roots as a community-focused club. This makes sense given that the NoVa travel soccer market is already so saturated it would be hard for a club located so close to all the other ones to break into the more elite levels. No reason to throw good money after bad on that effort.

But I don't know what the SFL withdrawal could mean. Don't some house teams currently play in that league now? It would seem that you'd want to keep up your relationship with all the leagues available for house players to play in.

No, it just proves there's plenty to say about other clubs, even though VYS dominates the conversation on this board.

(Or, at least, it DID dominate the discussion until two threads turned into a heated discussion of Arlington's tryouts.)

The point isn't that other clubs don't have their own problems, the point is that the parents generally are not airing their clubs dirty laundry, and if they do, for the most part they are speaking in general terms and not mentioning the club.

Oh, and a discussion about the fairness of tryouts at a club does not compare to the train wreck that this VYS thread is. Keep in mind that in the general NOVA soccer discussion thread, VYS crap dominated that too. Again, keep posting, you all continue to represent your club in the worst possible light, and your attempt to shine a light on other clubs perceived problems didn't quite hit the mark.

You must have some interest or connection to VYS to keep coming back to this thread to berate people saying negative things. Normal people don't give a fig if someone posts things about a club they aren't involved with.?

Nope, no interest than it keeps popping up at the top of the page. Your club is like watching the soccer version of Jerry Springer. Keep posting and ill keep mocking.

Ha ha! Nice try VYS employee

Believe me, if I was a VYS employee I would do my best to address this thread with parents through the club and advise them to keep their negativity to themselves and that they are free to vote with their feet. And if I could identify any parent or employee who is posting negatively online that I would encourage them to leave the club.

When you are standing on the sidelines you represent the club, online is no different. Act like a asshat on the sideline and I would ask you to leave, not really different here either.

The perceived reputation of a club you aren't associated with really shouldn't stress you out so much.

LOL STRESS?!?!? STRESS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

That couldn't be further from the truth, you guys entertain me. Your over sensationalized drama is hilarious. I've only offered some friendly advice that if you wish to improve the image of your club you might want to take your complaints offline and find another more private way to share. But, hey, its your club reputation so feel free to ignore it, as many of you have anyways. But if you don't like being mocked, then let the thread die.

You sound a little unhinged. Time to take a break from DCUM I think.

I'm definitely not considering VYS for my kid with all the trash I read on these forums. They don't want him anyways since we aren't from Vienna
