The current showrunners weren't the only ones to pitch the idea of a show to GRRM. He asked them the question, "who's Jon Snow's mother?" and whatever they answered won them the right to the show. There are certainly things that are going to stray from the books, but the larger plot line will definitely stay in place, as set down by GRRM. (It's taking him an ungodly long time to write, but it's all outlined.)

In the books, the witch tells her that the "volunqar" will strangle her. Volanqar means little brother in Valyrian and she assumes it means Tyrion, which partly explains her obsession with seeing him killed. But she was also born a few minutes before Jaime so a lot of readers think he will do it.
That would be awesome. I'd like to think Jaime won't fall back into his old ways, and that he really developed into a person with a heart. Cersei has become more obsessed with revenge and obliterating anyone in her path.

I love Tyrion too. I do wonder what it's like for him to play a dwarf on a show where he gets made fun of and gets a lot of cruel jokes his way due to his height. It takes a strong person to play a role like that.

I almost cried when he was telling his story about loving dragons as a kid.
+ 3 Tyrion is one of my favorite characters. Love his humor, wit, intelligence, braveness, height, looks, integrity, shamelessness. He is the most truthful character on the show.

Freys rise against House Bolton and that helps Jon Snow retake Winterfell. Theon enlists his sister's help to support Jon Snow against the Lannisters. High Garden throws in with Jon Snow because of Loras and Margarey. Dorne throws in with Jon Snow because of Oberyn.
Tyrion and Dani return to Westeros with the dragons and attack the Lannisters from the other side. Tyrion, Dani and Jon form an alliance to take out the White Walkers, with each of them riding one dragon.
I love all of that especially if we get to see Ramsey's head on a spike.
I wonder of Sansa may end up with Tyrion in the end... all of her knights have been monsters, maybe she will grow, and realize that Tyrion is the real hero in GoT. I absolutely hated her character all of these seasons until she grew a spine and ran from Ramsey and forgave Theon. Now, I'm pulling for her.
I sort of hope Sansa ends up with Tyrion in the end. He inherits Casterly Rock and she becomes Lady Lannister. He also becomes the Hand for Dani and John's reign.
Bran goes back to the Three Eyed Raven. Rickon becomes Lord of Winterfell.

What happens to Arya?
She becomes a Faceless Man and Jon contracts her to kill Walder Frey.
I've wondered for a long time whether the faceless men were mercenaries that were quasi religious. Their secrecy and discipline make me think of an extreme version of a group like the Freemasons.
