That’s gotta hurt the ego.
ND beat Indiana the last time they played. Less than a year ago.

Wow you are really grasping at a lot of straws for your conclusions. Just give it a rest.

Please elaborate. Which former NFL players ? (And nobody is"lining up".
Attractive D-1 schools include Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Michigan if the family is looking for a valuable college degree from an academically exceptional school.

I literally just wonder if the stench of this mess will turn people off and if football recruits (or academic stars) will look elsewhere because of the negative PR.
When they first announced the bracket and there was immediate grumbling about ND's absence, I actually think the response was a bit more balance -- some people thought they'd been screwed and some thought it was fair. I saw a number of commentators openly question the process because ND had been ranked within the top 12 but was out of the CFP, so on the surface at least it seemed screwy.
Then ND made a series of decisions that just made them look AWFUL and now almost no one is on their side. When the player voted to skip a bowl game, it looked a little petty but people were still pretty understanding. The initial statements from ND, including Bevaqua, were of the "we're just shocked" variety and didn't seem that vindictive. But then Bevaqua went on his self-pity tour which got increasingly embarrassing, and now we're a few days on and NO ONE is on Notre Dame's side. They look like petty losers and their head coach is chatting with with the NY Giants and the linebackers coach already departed for Michigan State.
If I'm a top high school recruit, I'm looking at that mess and just thinking "huh, perhaps I look elsewhere this year." It's not even about the program or their opponents (ND is still an elite program and will be a contender for the CFP next year regardless of what happens with this MOU). It's just... the stench of loserdom. Plus you have to go live in South Bend.

They went to the championship last year. The cxl on the bowl game in support of their players. They have a player up for Heisman award and will likely go first round in the draft. I think they will be just fine for players.
Notre Dame plays such a soft schedule. It's not a showcase school like the SEC and Big 10 schools are for athletes that have NFL ambitions. College football is changing. ND shouldn't be where five star recruits go in this era, especially after the petulance and patheticness of Notre Dame in recent weeks.

CFB ADs threaten to avoid scheduling games against Notre Dame if the MOU favoring Notre Dame football goes into effect next year. Says that if ND football is ranked among top 12 teams, then ND is in the CFP playoffs for the National Championship. Ridiculously unfair advantage to Notre Dame football. Only applies if the CFP is limited to 12 or 14 teams; if the CFP expands to a 16 team (or more) playoff, then the MOU is null & void.
Lots of anger toward primary Donna Notre Dame football from all corners of the college football world.
Time for Notre Dame football to join a conference & to abide by the rules which apply to all other teams. Folks are sick of the special privileges accorded Notre Dame football.
