My mother did everything for us, whatever we needed. I should have anticipated this as the MAGAs were the same with my bil mother.
We were at a wedding recently and I couldn’t even look at them. What a disappointment they are. They suck up every hate filled lie that comes out of Trumps mouth.
For several years, the democrats put illegal aliens ahead of citizens.
Closed schools and after school activities to house illegal immigrants.
Pumped up funds to hotels at tax payer expense to house them (in massive quantities).
Insisted on govt employees and contractors getting covid shots to keep their jobs while allowing those crossing the border we not required to have them. The key word was immigrants were "vaccine eligible".
Two different standards. One for immigrants and one for second class citizens.
What a disappointment democrats are. Now they're feeling the sting of it. Sorry, not sorry.

It’s way beyond politics. Anyone who is contributing to the demise of our democracy does not get my love or friendship,
That's your opinion, and it is absolutely a political one.
I know that is easier for you to justify but it's really not political. At least not solely political. There are definite moral and integrity issues with Trump and his supporters. (NP).
I believe it is totally OK and normal that people have different moral standards. Some people believe it is morally OK to marry minor, to have several wives, to mutiliate female genitals, etc. But for some people is morally wrong to sleep with the same sex partner, etc. US, as a melting pot, have to embrace all the people. Why are you against other's cultures, morals and believes?

Truly. And I feel reasonably strongly about my politics. But love for my family and my desire for my children to grow up near grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins is far stronger than anything else. Teach your kids that people have different values and different opinions, and that we don't slice out of our lives people who have different perspectives.
I know you mean well but this is a very good example of privilege. My children are biracial so no I will not have them around family members who lie and say Jan 6 was BLM and antifa or that the proud boys and unite the right rally are good things. You dont love me or my partner or children if you support politicians/polices/lies that threaten their safety and deny them basic humanity. This is not an intellectual exercise for many people. These are our lives.
DP. My children are also biracial and the URM side of the family is MAGA (or at least Trump voters), largely due to religious beliefs.
Never had anything said or done that threatens their safety or denied their basic humanity.
YMMV
Are you the white parent? As a biracial woman myself, trust me when I tell you, your children have a different racial experience than you. They feel and notice things that you do not, that you cannot. And a time will likely come where they inform you that they have absolutely experienced racism from your MAGA family. And they will spend lots of money on therapy coming to terms with the fact that their own parent cared more about keeping the peace with these people than protecting them.
PP said it was the URM side of the family who is MAGA. PP says it’s based on religious beliefs so you can guess which URM they are talking about. So no the MAGA side isn’t being racist, they are the URMs!
+1000
Just stop with the myth of MAGA is racist. Tons of BIPOC people voted for trump. Latinx people voted for trump. Even LGTBQIA++ people support trump.
Trump had more black voters this time than any republican in the last 30 years. This concept that he does not welcome or appeal to minorities is not supported by the data.
More of few is still not much. Most people of color vote against Republicans, just as they did for Trump. And the reason for that is the known racism that underlies their policies and is prevalent in their rhetoric. Anyone voting for this and pretending it has nothing to do with racism is a disingenuous liar.
But but but we were told by a previous poster that Republicans aren't racist at all! https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/14/private-chat-among-young-gop-club-members-00592146
And we’ve been told repeatedly that the campus protesters are just advocating for peace in the ME, but Students for Justice in Palestine just tweeted “Death to all collaborators”.
Does that mean that all the keffiyeh kids are terrorists?
Let’s be consistent, shall we?
It starts from the top so start there . . . acknowledge the hateful, violent, racist, nasty sh-- that comes from trump (and others in MAGA and in his administration). No one on the right has done that yet and you have no credibility until you do.
“You”? I’m not a Trumper. Despise him.
But don’t despise those who voted for him.
That distinction is the crux of this thread.
I think the best path forward is to understand and win over enough Trump voters to win future elections. And I don’t believe that shunning will accomplish that.
Others here apparently disagree and feel that their unambiguous and uncompromising moral certitude, righteousness and condescension will magically make things better.
I disagree.
+1 so very true
Well, Wise Ones, please explain how to deprogram the MAGA cult and all the people who believe the propaganda of the GOP. We are waiting.
Understand, persuade, compromise, divide/conquer, etc., etc.
In other words, politic effectively.
Shunning/ranting/despising and otherwise vomiting negative emotions while wearing the mantle of self-righteousness? Don’t think that’s likely to accomplish much—Trump has already cornered that market.

Still wierd, they're your family. After COVID with relatives lost, I'd never want to push anyone away.
DP and I’m lucky that my traditional conservative family members are intelligent and empathetic enough to have recognized the danger of the MAGA cult as of J6, so I haven’t had to cut anyone out. They are now independents who don’t necessarily support all democrat political views, but they recognize the need to vote against falling into further authoritarianism.
But if your “political” views involve supporting a party who refuses to denounce slurs and Nazi/rape jokes because it’s just kids being kids, you are okay with masked ICE agents grabbing people off the street without a warrant or ID, and you think Charlie Kirk’s racist and misogynistic rants are some sort of intellectual commentary, then this goes deeper into your underlying morals.
And I find the morals of MAGA to be so abhorrent that I will protect my peace by not keeping them in my life (I have some friends/colleagues I’ve distanced myself from without any fanfare). Maybe they feel the same about me. I am confident in my values though that I am going whine about how stupid and mean it is if they cut me off. Good riddance.

It’s not “weird” to be on a completely different moral ground and not be able to look someone in the face anymore, family or not. The whole world is watching and very clearly sees what is happening here. Out country is falling and MAGA is just filled with glee to “own the libs” I would have cut off nazi family back in WW2 as well.
I'm a proud irredeemable deplorable.

This is not a flex.
We thought so too, but Hillary continued to flexing it.

What Vance expressed to the friendly Claremont audience was a dramatically reduced vision of American citizenship. It’s one in which having ancestors who have lived here for generations entitles you to more; a vision of citizenship that’s long existed around the world, with a notable and aspirational exception in the United States.
...
Vance: "I think the people whose ancestors fought in the Civil War have a hell of a lot more claim over America than the people who say they don’t belong,” he concluded.
What if their ancestors fought for slavery? We want to reward that right?

Do you see the double standards?
Where is the double standards? Those people came that way, without valid ID, they are leaving the same way, without showing ID. Same standard.
Are you being deliberately obtuse? A) you don't know that they all came here with no ID. B) it's a plane, you show id regardless. and C) ID is important b/c they are disappearing citizens and people here legally.
These are humans not some sub-species. So they should absolutely be treated the same. And it's gross for you not to see that.
