They all have their niche audience and do a very good job with that niche. Going to any of these 4 schools will not set your kid back years despite what DCUMs have to say.

I think the issue with UC Merced is more about people desperate for prestige who misunderstand what a public university is for. UC Merced is public institution for the state of California and is producing great benefits for the state. If you’re a kid from Fresno and want to be a doctor, teacher or nurse it’s amazing. If you are a prestige-addled DMV parent who thinks any UC is more prestigious than VT or UMDBC then you’re just missing the full picture.
DCUM should create its own ranking. It would be very popular with the crowd here and also the cause of many strokes.
Why? It would be full of the usual trolls ranking their favored schools at the top and the schools they snidely deride at the bottom - for no rhyme or reason, just immaturity.

They’d ensure Harvard is at the bottom. This forum both is pretentious and elitist, but spurns “strivers” or those who just are at the top. It’s a weird personality. And, of course, UVA will somehow be justified as a top 5 college.

You could say the same thing about the UVA boosters constantly talking about how it's so much better, how W&M is a safety for UVA, Ivy level, yada yada - if it's clearly better you wouldn't need to rub it in everyone's faces 24/7 esp when the stats don't agree with that. Why does every thread that so much as mentions W&M draw a hoard of haters that make their entire DCUM brand attacking it?
+1
If UVA was that much better they would have 100% submitting test scores and a 1570 median like the ivies but they don't and in fact have the exact same test stats as W&M.
+2. WM is just as good as UVA and we just need to spread the facts to as many people as we can.
My goodness... the insecurity of the UVA and W&M boosters is palpable. No one cares.

Observing what's going on here and how insecure some of you are is hardly trolling. Just look at the above bolded exchange. Wow.
And you personally know the people making those posts? Perhaps you do.
DP. Thank goodness I don’t know anyone insecure enough to say “X school is as good as Y school and we must ‘spread the facts’!!” How idiotic.

You understand that this means 60% of students DO USE RANKINGS?? Right? This is basic math.![]()

Some very stupid people here. I guess it’s triggering to acknowledge how many people use USNWR for ranking information.

I just did a deep dive on UC Merced and it looks pretty amazing. not sure that any other state has created an R2 university anew recently? if you have a kid who wanted to relocate to California and was really into the outdoors and environmental science, it looks really cool. so close to Yosemite!
Are you okay? You do realize UC Merced has a yield rate of 9%. N...I...N...E percent. No one thinks it is amazing.
