- Find out about Living Learning communities at your kid's college. Apply to one of them that your child can tolerate, write the essay and make sure they get in. You can find out which dorms each LLC is housed in, whether or not they have A/C, how old they are, etc. LLCs typically have better dorms and most kids don't want to do this extra step.
- Accommodations: Get a doctor to provide a note that you need A/C, humidifier and an air purifier. Some schools won't allow those things without a doctor's note. Of course, you need a doctor friend or lay the groundwork with your pediatrician beforehand. Allergies and asthma are the typical reasons..

All the people posting how it doesn't feel that hot in Southern California were being ridiculous.
It is insane that Pomona with an endowment of 2.8 BILLION dollars and a cost of attendance (tuition/room and board/expenses) of $89,414 for freshman does not have air conditioning in all dorms!
There's a ton of housing help you can get. Maybe attend the institution before bashing it.

I think a housing accommodation is what it is going to take for any substantive change.
I’m just so disappointed in DC for not filing the housing change request right away-I would have never accepted such a raw deal without a fight.
A single as a freshman is a pretty amazing position to be in. Nothing raw about this deal.
If can be difficult for some people who are shy and don't do well trying to find a group. Having a roommate can sometimes help.
Of course, if you have a terrible roommate, it's awesome to have a single.
But, if OP's DC didn't request a change immediately, then maybe they aren't as concerned about this as the parent.
NP. Just reading this chat and I have to say you sound sort of crazy involved and with kindness, I think you need to stop and back off. Clearly your anxiety and demand for perfection in life has transferred to dc. I know people like you irl and they tend to make mountains out of molehills and life’s little bumps constantly set them off. It’s a sad way to live. Don’t transfer this any more than you already have to your dc.
I love DCUM posters like this who pretend to be concerned but in reality are just horrible people themselves with an axe to grind. MYOB.

What housing help? The MAJORITY of the dorms at Pomona do not have air conditioning.
