No, not everyone uses self storage.

According to US Census data, almost half a million people left Florida for other Southern states. Florida is becoming unaffordable for most people who try to live there and earn a living.
I have several friends who have moved to my neighborhood from FL. It wasn't because of affordability. It was because of the heat - particularly the summers. The summers is southern FL are unbearable for many compared to GA or TN.
And, there was this from the article you linked:
"Despite losing nearly 500,000 people last year, Florida still experience net positive migration, the Census found. The state gained about 740,000 residents from out of state in 2022."

I would prefer to trust Forbes, the survey was updated September 2023.

In Florida everyone uses self storage because there are no basements and attics are unusable. Just an FYI since you are so intelligent.

Adding to that, insurance is significantly more expensive than in other states, and the recent tort reforms intended to make Florida friendlier to insurers hasn't really been tested. So I would speculate that lower-income professional jobs like professor might be dissuaded from putting down roots in an area they can barely afford. The politics is probably also a factor for many professors, but I doubt it's the whole story.
Even noted DeSantis fan Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal is hammering the homeowners insurance problem in Florida.

Because people have an idealized of "beach life" that is not really true. I won't go into all of the reasons why that is (they are well covered) but it has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the belief you'll be watching Manatees from the beach while sipping a Marg in the sun all day. . . . So, let's be honest about that.
But think of all the people driving around the dmv with their Florida plates. Those people count as living in Florida, right? Even though they clearly don’t. So how many people are domiciled in Florida for tax purposes, but don’t actually have to deal with the negative consequences of desantis’ idiocy?
Until you just said it, I hadn't realized it. But I do see this a fair amount. Cars with FLA plates in the DMV.
A lot of military personnel are stationed in Florida at some point and it is quite common to switch their home of record to Florida to avoid state income taxes for the rest of their careers. That accounts for a lot of the Florida car tags in the DC area, especially in Virginia. They also vote absentee in Florida.
So they cheat on their taxes just like Trump.
