I know a TJ senior that got waitlisted at UVA but into a HYP. Didn’t get into any other T30 so is very lucky and happy.

I just checked that out and about half the students seem to be from Northern Virginia. This represents a 40% increase over the last 20 years. So in 2005 35% of the students were from Northern Virginia and now it is 50%. If they are engaging in regional representation then they seem to be willing to adjust the quotas over time.

Not UVA. Nothing nationally ranked higher than UVA.

TJ is grueling, and it's not necessary for elite college admissions. If anything, having to compete with other TJ kids makes it much harder.

+1. For some FCPS students, being top 10% at their base HS will yield better college acceptance odds than being in a lower percentile at TJ.

Lots of TJ students are not really into mainstream STEM college degrees. Instead, they are planning either pre-med or pre-dental degrees. W&M is a good option for those students.

They aren't idiots. If they took 95% of in state students from NOVA, they would lose legislative support in ROVA.
