I am not the PP. I grew up with a sibling with a developmental disability and know others with a range of mental illnesses. The only good thing Reagan did was to close these institutions and the worst thing he did was take all the savings and dole it out to his donors through tax cuts, etc. There should been been robust, wrap around services and there is just shit and real, real shit in states that did not expand their Medicaid coverage.

It's a horror that our current system equates mental illnesses with criminals, including locking up people w/o their anti-psychotic meds, etc. Many of these current mass shootings are committed by folks who are not mentally ill but due to the poison of their racism, their obsession with white supremacy, and/or their intoxication caused by Fox News, OAN, etc.

Wasn’t it illegal to have those weapons in Highland Park? How long did he have them and did he when the police came for the violent threats?

Police went to his residence in 2019 twice, once because he said he was going to kill himself and second time because he had said he would kill everyone at home. No charges were pressed, because there was no sworn witness statement. He had no guns then, but had a collection of knives. His gun was legally purchased, per the police. This is why local bans are pointless if weapons can be legally purchased in the town over or the state over.

I’d like to know the age at which he purchased the rifles. If he was under the age of 21 — and over 18 — then my understanding is that he needed parental consent under Illinois law.
